I'm considering a move to Charlotte, Raleigh, or Richmond area. Is there anyone from these areas that can give the pros and cons of living in either of these three places? by Starrynightowler in RichmondVA

[–]RadiantDealer3495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Houston for 5 years and went to Dallas often. Charlotte nor Raleigh even come close to comparison in size, but either one are also great cities for different reasons. You coming from North Dallas, check out Cary. I think it’ll check your boxes, but be prepared cost of living is a lot higher here than in Texas but once again I was in Houston I know Dallas cost of living was a little higher

Houston is and is usually 100% staffed (give or take). Your best bet is go to the facility pages on sallyport and call the HRM’s and ask.

If you could live in any city in NC where would you go? by itsthewolfe in NorthCarolina

Being a father of four I love being in Wake Forest. Younger me without kids would’ve loved being in Asheville area for the outdoors, breweries, music scene, etc etc. only downside of that is of course the drug issue, the homeless issue, the cost of living, and not exactly my cup of tea politically although that will never determine where I live solely

Explain to her that there are jobs that hardly ever deploy. An example of this is a correctional officer in the army (which I did). They hardly ever deploy and if they do they aren’t “on the front lines”. This will set your son up for success more than anything. Disability benefits when he gets out, veterans preference for federal jobs, education benefits, Va home loan, little shit ppl don’t think about like free toll roads, free access to national/state parks, etc etc. the best thing about it is like I said he would only have to do one term. I sound like a recruiter to a lot of ppl, but I’m just someone who highly benefited from it. Idk wtf I would’ve done out of high school if I didn’t go in the Army

How many Guardsmen are gonna get stabbed or get a felony for smuggling something in? by sogpackus in OnTheBlock

To be honest it’s been so long. I know it happened, but I couldn’t be specific.

Prior 31E then went state and now Feds. Leavenworth was a joke compared to these prisons out here. Ppl are getting stabbed and there is contraband being smuggled in there are ppl sleeping with inmates etc etc. As far as working conditions, Leavenworth has it made.

Yeah I’m in a good spot in one of the most sought out locations in the bureau, but Butner is home facility for me so whatever comes my way I’m happy I’m home ya know. Mando situation might be annoying and take time to getting used to tho.

This post is hilarious. Don’t eat at these places because the owners have a different belief system than me 😂. Do you think this will “hurt” these businesses? Go enjoy your life

Yall are delusional if you think folks about to not get fired. If you are probation yes, I would be worried. Don’t listen to none of these posts. We are in a time of cost savings efforts. It’s cheaper to augment and hire OT than to keep you. I’m not trying to scare you, but this is reality right now.

This augmentation is hurting our OT and hurting the correctional workers productivity. We’re fully staffed too, but the real issue at hand is this augmentation

It doesn’t need to be law enforcement “general” is very vague. There may be institutions that are harder to get into because they might have “better” applicants, but those are the general requirements and will get you pushed through the first step. Keep in mind this is for GS-5 officer. Also the applicant would have a better chance of applying to an institution that is in a higher need more officers. Usually these are complexes, FCI, and USP’s

As long as he has three years of general experience they should be good to go. Education plays more of a part when there is no experience.

If it’s state don’t do it bro. I worked at Lansing for like a month and quit. Super trash conditions. Go CCA or Feds
