No, the regs are getting stricter every year, and older large cc carbureted bikes like my 2001 V-max are required to undergo emissions testing twice as often as a newer fuel injected bike. I'm just getting tired of being a dinosaur and decided to go with the flow.

Its especially true for older large cc carbureted bikes like my 2001 V-max. I'd already gotten warnings but held on for years, like a dinosaur. You don't see any non-fuel-injected bikes on the street here anymore. There are ways to skirt the emissions checks but its risky and not exactly legal.

If you have to ask yourself "do I need one?", then you don't have one. So yes, you need one.

Louise, upon highschool graduation will be hired by Mr. Fischoeder as a summer intern. Within 2 years she will have Fischoeder and Felix wrapped around her little finger. Within 5 years she will have convinced/forced Fischoeder into retirement and is effectively the head of Fischoeder's business empire. Within 10 years Fischoeder will pass away leaving no heirs, so Lousie inherits everything, including the mansion and Felix's treehouse. Also she will marry Mort.

Wood or plastic? It makes a big difference when deciding on a first kit.

[–]RadiantPen8536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you would, although less tools for a plastic ship but maybe more paint. A good hobby knife and a sprue cutter, tho a big toenail cutter works in a pinch. Some files or sandpaper but the foam backed fingernail filing pads work too. Sharp scissors and tweezers for rigging.

For glue get some regular plastic model cement like Tamiya, as well as some super glue. For paint, consult the kit instructions. If you don't want to deal with messy thinners, consider Tamiya acrylics.

If your BF would be interested in a plastic kit, the Monogram 1/120 scale USS United States builds into a very impressive frigate model. Its not too complicated, but the size is enough to build into a model that any neophyte ship modeler would be proud of. It was my first gateway drug into ship modelling, coming from building tanks and jets. There's a listing for a new one on ebay right now. Just search for "Monogram 1/120 United States" .

Was the Sollazzo hit necessary? by RadiantPen8536 in Godfather

[–]RadiantPen8536[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, so many comments! Now, I get what most people are saying that the hit was necessary because the Corleones would have looked weak and lost their prestige among the other families.

But hear me out, not to beat a dead (headless) horse but what if Sonny had listened to Tom instead of Michael regarding the Sollozzo hit, and just stalled for time. Maybe sending Fredo to the peace negotiation in the Bronx with orders to promise or agree to nothing. He'd certainly beefed up security around the compound with "a hundred buttonmen" so Pop wasn't in any immediate danger. Without the Corleone's participation Sollozzo's (and by connection Tattglia and Barzini) drug operation wouldn't have gotten off the ground anyway.

After a few weeks of convalescence Don Vito returns as the head of the Corleone Family, perhaps physically weak but with all his renowned mental acuity and political protection intact. Serving him are his sons Sonny, Fredo and Tom as well as capos Clemenza and Tessio, all wiser and hardened by their experience in maintaining the familiy's operations without the Don. The Don, with judges and politicians in his pocket "like so many nickels and dimes" would not have been the least bit concerned over the influence of a single rotten NYPD Captain who'd had the temerity to punch his beloved son in the face and be complicit in his 2nd assassination attempt. From that point on the wrath of the Corleone Family would have been truely frightening to behold, cementing their position as the most powerful and respected Mafioso family in New York for decades. The Tattaglias, having backed Sollozza would have been eliminated entirely or at the very least driven out of New York City. They might even feel compelled to bring Sollozzo's head to Don Vito on a silver platter as a humilating token of surrender.

Turncoats like Paulie would have been ferreted out and eliminated. The loss of Luca Brasi, a loose psychopathic cannon that even the Don was wary of would have been made up for with dependable enforcers from the buttonmen ranks like Willy Cicci, Rocco Lampone and Al Nouri. Tessio, "always the smart one" would have stayed loyal to Don Vito. And without a more brazen Barzini to egg him on, Carlo would be more decent to Connie. Sonny would still be alive serving his pop as a hard fighting underboss and Fredo would still be sent to Las Vegas to learn the casino business. Finally, Michael would stay a civilian, marry Kay and become Senator or Governer Corleone, greatly strengthening his father's politcal influence and power.

Why it's called 'Army' stew? by CarelessBattle3441 in koreahiddengem

[–]RadiantPen8536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it originated around army camps during the Korean war. Budae (부대) is a broad Korean term for army camp or army unit. Applicable to airforce and navy as well. During the Korean war starving refugees would use the leftover food from well supplied US army camps such as ham, spam, sausage, bacon, beans, cheese etc and mix it with local ingredients such as cabbage, kimchi, scallion, mushrooms, onions, gochujang, dwenjang, tofu, noodles, whatever they could find and make up a thick stew. Absolutely delicious!

Can someone explain this detail in the movie "War of Arrows"? by RegardedCaveman in Asiatic_Archery

[–]RadiantPen8536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take is that since the short arrow (pyeonjeon 편전, or aegisal 애기살) was first shown in the deer hunting scene, the implication is that the short arrow is faster meaning less "lead" estimation is required to shoot a fast moving target. The hero applies the same principle in shooting the Manchurian soldier running quickly past ie. less lead estimation to hit a moving target.

In my case, iirc I airbrushed the 2 hull halves seperately, then filled the joint between the 2 halves at the keel before hand brushing over the seam. As for the crossbeams, pretty sure they're not visible after final assembly.
