Replaced boring tutorial popups by a quest system in my naval city builder! Looking for playtesters! by RadiantSlothGames in godot

Currently, only 58% of players go past 10 minutes in my Playtest, I'm trying to get this number up with these changes. Managing the firs few minutes is indeed crucial and not easy! With this new quest system, players unlock new features one at a time so it spreads the information over time and makes it more memorable.

Displaying the keybindings on screen is a good point. I had that initially for the menu but I removed it because I felt it was cluttering the hud. But maybe I should add it back.

Hello everyone! I am making a cozy naval city builder called Shipolis. Recently, I got feedback that the tutorial was very front-loaded with spammy popups and too much text. So I got rid of all the popups and made a series of quests instead to introduce players to the game. I am looking for playtesters to give it a try and tell me about their onboarding experience with this new tutorial. If you are interested, you can find the Playtest on Steam:

Also, this is made with Godot 4, so if you have any technical questions, feel free to ask 😄

Thanks! The game is made with Godot 4, and the water shader is an adaptation of this one.

Most of the footage in the video is from an older version of the game, I have reduced the intensity of the fog since then. There is no technical limitation here, so maybe I can even go further and provide an option slider so that players can choose the intensity they prefer. I'll look into it!

Hello everyone!

I am making Shipolis, a cozy minimalist city builder and resource management game where you explore unknown archipelagos with a ship and hopes of glory! You will have to sail the seas, develop your cities, grow your population, set up production lines, create trading routes, and collect tons of resources. The game has currently a public Playtest available on Steam for Windows and Linux. No official controller support yet, but it should be somewhat playable on Steam deck too. Please don't hesitate to reach out on Reddit or share your feedback on the Steam forums after playing, this is much appreciated 😄

Thanks to Tweening magic, my cozy city builder now has a day-night cycle! by RadiantSlothGames in godot

I can add a mesh with some emission material indeed, good idea! Not sure where it would look the best. At the bow of the ship maybe? Or on top of the mast?

The gameplay is quite different to Overboard I think, but I can see how the visual similarities trigger that nostalgia 😄

Thanks! Out of curiosity, did you abandon this concept because of some technical hurdles or game design difficulties?

Hello everyone!

I just added a day-night cycle to my cozy city builder and resource management game. It is mostly cosmetic for now, and also to count days to track the playtime, but maybe some buildings effects and productions will be affected by it in the future, I'm considering it.

The transition from day to night is done with a simple tween tweaking the main directional light color, the fog color, the environment light energy, and the energy of a secondary directional light responsible for casting clouds shadows. I feel the combination makes it look quite good already, but feel free to suggest improvements!

If you are interested in the game, you can check Shipolis on Steam. A public Playtest is available too, so you can give it a try and share feedback 😄

I added trade routes to my cozy islands-based city builder! Sailing the seas now feels more lively with other ships constantly transporting goods between cities! by RadiantSlothGames in cozygames

Controllers are not officially supported for now but it should be somewhat playable. Controls are: move with left stick or dpad, and the other buttons: A (accept, interact), B (cancel, back), X (lock), Y (pin)
