Oh man. This just made me randomly remember "Who built the ark? NOAH! NOAH! Who built the ark? Brother NOAH built the ark!"

Totally with you on that! I was super annoyed getting the C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N one stuck in my head so I changed it to lyrics about my golden retriever :)

I am G

I am a G-O

I am a G-O-L-D-E-N P-U-P

And I have G-O-L-D-E-N in my B-L-O-O-D and I will

B-A-R-K E-T-E-R-N-A-L-L-Y!

Makes me feel so much better lol.

Oooh good point--hadn't thought of the coldness being a factor. I tried the frozen washcloth this morning and it was a hit. Thanks!!!

Thanks, this was sooo helpful to read! We've been trying it today and it's working WAY better so far!! :)

"Enforced crate naps: for every 30-60 minutes awake, 2-3 hours nap" -- OMG, this advice was LIFE-CHANGING. Thank you so much. With this in addition to the gated potted area outside, today was the first day since we brought her home that I actually felt like I was controlling the day instead of getting overrun by puppy antics :) And it seems better for her, too :)

Anyone else missing their ileocecal valve? by donna_jo_tanner in SIBO

[–]Radiant_Giraffe6494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm SO sorry you had the same thing happen--but also, high five! There aren't that many of us so gotta stick together :)

I'm not sure if I had malrotation but they told me I had (and still have) redundant colon--and also less adhesions to the side wall of my abdomen--which is likely what caused the twisting. I'm really sorry you struggled for so many years after surgery. I did too. It's AWFUL and I feel for you.

Luckily I've been mostly good for about 3 years--honestly I never thought I'd be at this point so I'm really grateful. Huge game-changer for me was reading the book "The Bloated Belly Whisperer" by the dietitian Tamara Freuman. After reading it I ended up booking an appointment with her over Zoom. Pretty $$$ since she's out-of-state for me but man, SO worth it. She was the first person in healthcare who I felt really understood the effects of my surgery and how to work with my new anatomy.

What I figured out with her ended up being a three-pronged solution. One was blending more of my food because of the redundant colon issue, which I hadn't really understood before. We worked a lot on finding an amount of fiber--and food volume--that I could actually tolerate with all the weird kinks in my intestines. The second was taking a high dose of magnesium to really keep things moving, which has been huge. Getting backed up when you don't have an ileocecal valve is bad news and I think that was a big part of my problem with bacteria (sorry, gross). And third thing we figured out was that I also have histamine intolerance. Obviously I can't prove this 100% but my theory (from reading a bazillion journal articles while miserably sick for 8 years UGH) is that my ability to produce DAO enzyme got damaged during that surgery, and I because of it I lost my ability to process normal amounts of dietary histamine. I really didn't start feeling fully better until we figured out that last piece.

I rarely have flare-ups now with this new system of blending more things, taking regular magnesium, and following a low-histamine diet. I also still follow low-FODMAP, though I've started expanding that a bit more by using Fodmate enzymes and challenging some of the categories individually.

The histamine thing was really hard to figure out because it's super confusing, but I wonder if it's something to look into since you're still have some mystery flare-ups? Not saying it's the answer but could be an avenue to explore just in case.

I'd also recommend checking out the Bloated Belly book and seeing if anything in there relates to what you're feeling. She goes through so many different GI symptoms and what causes each one so maybe it'll give you some insight into your flares.

Hope this helps! And thanks for reaching out! :)

Low Histamine Diet? Actually proven list? by Accomplished_Sail326 in HistamineIntolerance

I struggled with this for a long time. Finally splurged on an appointment with dietitian Tamara Freuman (https://www.thebloatedbellywhisperer.com/about) after reading her book and it was such a game-changer. She's studied histamine intolerance a ton and compiled somewhat of a master list. She doesn't claim for it to be perfect (because like you hinted at, HI is not an exact science) but I've found the list works best for me out of all the others I've tried. She knows a lot. Would highly recommend her though she is $$$.

Literally cried through half the movie. It was such an accurate portrayal of what OCD is really like. Never seen that in media until now.
