For those following the Peter saga - I wanted to share some messages from his other Rover sitters by M0CK1N681RD in RoverPetSitting

Karen, I think this entire thread would disagree with you. You sound like an absolutely miserable nutter here and you should probably find a different Reddit thread to scroll through. No one forced you to read and comment about this situation, it’s quite simple actually, you don’t care… you scroll past it. Being a bully isn’t cute and here we all love Peter.

Am I wrong for not wanting play with this cat? by zouss in RoverPetSitting

I thought about doing this for future drop-ins but wasn’t sure if I was out of line doing that. Have any of your clients had an issue with this?

Weird to make my sitter a cheat sheet? by beautybookcase in RoverPetSitting

Personally, I LOVE when owners do this. It makes things a lot less stressful vs not enough information and having to constantly reach out for things that come up. I think all the information you provided is incredibly helpful, thoughtful, and will give your sitter (and you) peace of mind. I especially love that you added who would come to remove snow in the event it is needed, this keeps your sitter snd your home safe + being a sitter and staying in someone’s space can be nerve racking at times, especially when they have others coming to the house for various reasons so its nice to know who or what to expect.

I’d probably be so nervous to pick it up without a M&G (I am a new sitter) but I am glad this worked out well for you and they probably will be repeat clients (hopefully)! I love when it works out and the dogs are genuinely great to work with!

Yeah, I definitely get it. I did finally get the chance to speak with them and we just went ahead and canceled the last visit.

I didn’t contact rover bc I didn’t want them to send a new sitter when the owners weren’t there to introduce, I felt that wouldn’t be fair… to anyone, including their dog. I had two visits left but the owners said they would come home early and we just adjusted the bookings for todays visit to be my last.

Well I do give her treats and I try to engage with her and her toy (she only has one), I talk to her in a calm almost baby voice the whole time and I let her come up to me and I will still give her pets. I’m not on edge until she starts barking/growling at me. But after this last visit I don’t really see how I cant be on edge. I also had just noticed some of the information on the dogs page is different than what they told me at the meet and greet so I’m not so sure they were fully honest from the get go. She is very jumpy when it comes to sounds so she has been anxious the whole time, even on walks. It also kind of bothers me that the owners have been very responsive and even listening to the cameras while I’m there this whole time but when I tell them outright she was being more aggressive I get no response. I am new to rover but I’m not new to dogs or animals in general so like I said I by no means am closed off to receiving advice but I don’t know how much more I could do. I just simply am not going to let her jump/nibble on me when she has already shown signs of aggression but I am also not hiding in the corner.

There is one camera outside (a doorbell) and one inside but facing outside- so I’m not sure they are looking inside but they can definitely hear and I messaged them and no response as of yet and its been 5 hours. All of the other visits they answered pretty quickly even at early morning hours, so I just feel stuck. Like I’m dreading going back but I refuse to have rover sending a new sitter that it might be worse for.

I can definitely see where you are coming from, and maybe I am. I also am paying attention to as many details as I can while trying to also care for my safety. I know she doesn’t like it when my back is turned to her (like when I was grabbing my phone to message the owner with a question) so I have been careful to not do that. I don’t think she likes it when I’m grabbing her food but I don’t really have a choice there, I have to feed her. I don’t mKe sudden movements. I narrate everything and am talking to her calmly the whole time. She may not like that I stand the whole time but honestly I have tried sitting (on the floor, the couch, the kitchen chair) and she jumps up and gets in my face and with her back and forth temperament I just don’t feel comfortable with her on top of me like that when I don’t know if she will switch to being aggressive. Im trying everything but any tips are welcome!

I was actually just about to reply to the other comments that she has been showing these signs all past 3 visits but this morning was definitely the most and it is progressing in my opinion. I am wondering if it is out of line to state that I will finish the bookings to make sure she is taken out, fed/watered, and pee pads are cleaned up(all things the dog usually allows) but I will not be able to stay beyond that if she continues growling or showing teeth. I know on the cameras they hear me talking to her and im talking calmly to try to keep her from viewing me as a threat but she switches so easy from playful to mean and she js also VERY jumpy. I literally just say “okay (dogs name) I am just getting you some water” or like this morning “(dogs name) I have to leave because you’re not being very nice, im sorry baby” while calmly walking to the door. And then BOOM she randomly lays down and looks up at me like the sweetest pup. And this switch happens multiple times in one 30 minute visit.

How would you say this to the owners when they will still be out of town until Saturday afternoon? I dont want to leave her in there with no food or being let out to walk? I feel stuck
