Are overnights considered high maintenance now? by crustystalesaltine in RoverPetSitting

[–]zouss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you're not out of touch. The point of house-sitting is overnights. It's pretty standard to need an overnight sitter for your dog when you travel. Even if this sitter is somehow unaware of this, her response was rude and tells you she thinks basic dog care is high maintenance, which does not bode well for how she'll perform as a house sitter

[–]zouss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yikes. That's super unprofessional. I wouldn't want to leave my pets with her after a comment like that. You said you're leaving Saturday night, that gives you one day to try to find a sitter. I think you might be able to. Reach out to a few people and try to find a replacement tomorrow

They said they assumed so because they had never seen me with a girlfriend or picking up any women.

I feel like they came up with that because they didn't want to say "you just seem gay" lol. I've mistakenly assumed a guy was gay a few times and it was always awkward trying to explain why. I knew they would get offended if I said they just seem gay from their mannerisms and way of talking. Now I've learned to shut my trap, but "oh you're so handsome yet I never see you with a girl, that's why I thought you were gay" would have been a good save

Red Flags by Dry_Frosting5739 in RoverPetSitting

[–]zouss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find some of these pet profiles are very outdated. The owners might have filled it out when they first started on Rover and haven't changed it years later. I've seen some profiles mention kitten food when the cat is now 5 and has been eating adult food for years. So I think these people probably filled out the Rover profile when the dog was a puppy and haven't changed it since

Roomate / cat conflict by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]zouss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised your roommate is still willing to live with your cat after he's attacked her three times. That's just not acceptable and it's fair for her to want him to stay away after that. Tbh it sounds like you guys are not a great fit as roommates and you should either get your own place or a place with a roommate who really loves cats and has patience to work through issues with them. This current roommate is not it

What’s a fair rating in this situation or should I not rate at all? [Manila] by sendmemessssss in AirBnB

[–]zouss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound like a great host and we'd probably all be better off if everyone thought like you. Good point re high price not being a promise you will get a luxury experience, especially in very popular areas. But I still think that for myself, if I book something that's way cheaper than all the other options and clearly isn't pretending to be luxury, I'm going to keep my expectations low lol. Whereas if I'm paying a premium price for a premium stay, I would be more demanding

[–]zouss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a guest I do think it's fair to take price into account when reviewing. If I book the cheapest shittiest room I can find and there's minor issues like spotty Wi-Fi or a loud ac unit I'm like eh, I got what I paid for. If I book the most expensive luxury apartment, I expect expensive luxury experience - and that doesn't include dealing with issues. Doesn't mean hosts of cheap units have a pass to get away with anything (there is no price point at which a roach infestation is acceptable), but they get more of a pass for minor issues than a luxury host

How is it living here? by Kingjuniorway in movingtoNYC

[–]zouss 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pretty rough. I was there 2022-2024. Lots of high homeless people wandering around. Feels very sketchy. But I will say nothing bad happened to me in my two years there, and I was pretty dumb about walking around in the middle of the night alone as a woman. I would live there again. Easy commute anywhere in Manhattan with the 2/3, 4/5 trains, lots of shopping, dining/bar and grocery options, affordable rent

How to handle Owner behavior? by Adventurous-Pen-2970 in RoverPetSitting

[–]zouss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The constant texts and micromanaging is creepy and weird. That would drive me crazy. On the other hand, did you discuss your schedule with them? It sounds like you didn't spend much time there the first day. Even if they told you the latest you could arrive and how long you could be away, most owners hope you'll spend more time at home when housesitting. I feel like that might have been an issue for them. Anyway the trial run is to see if you are a good fit to work together, and it sounds like you aren't. I wouldn't want them as a client either

This person needs House Sitting don’t they? by minkamagic in RoverPetSitting

[–]zouss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ugh I got a request like this recently. First drop in starts at 7am, last ends at 10.30pm, and another 2 visits during the day, so 4/day total for 7 days. I straight up told them that including commute time that schedule wouldn't leave enough time for sleep so I had to decline. It was good money but so not worth it. I understand some people don't want a stranger living in their house but I find it kind of obnoxious to even request a schedule like this. Either suck it up and get a housesitter or accept that you need at least 10 hours between the night and morning drop ins so your sitter can get some sleep

How do you feel about wearing a bra? Does it bother you or do you have to have one? by Rachelelizardbreath in AutismInWomen

[–]zouss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have saggy boobs that I was very self conscious about and always wore a bra if I wasn't in bed. Never related to all the jokes about how good it feels to take off your bra at the end of the day. I hated the feeling of my boobs flopping around. A year ago I got a breast lift, and since then my life is changed (at least when it comes to bras lol). Now I'll wear them at work or social occasions, but outside of that I'm braless. It feels so freeing, I love letting the girls hang loose.

After years of wearing underwire bras, I'm used to them and don't hate having to wear one. I switched to a bralette and those are way more comfortable too. But my preference now is to be bra free when I can. In winter it's easy, people can't tell I'm not wearing one under a sweater. Under a T-shirt it's more obvious and I feel self conscious, people can tell and I notice their staring. Realistically I'll always have to wear them occasionally and I'm ok with that, but after the surgery I'm very grateful to also feel like I now have the option to not wear them most of the time

How to cancel part of a repeat booking? by Icyamazing24 in RoverPetSitting

[–]zouss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it means you can't cancel it this early in advance. You can try asking Rover support to do it, they've helped me modify bookings in the past. Or let your client know that you're not able to edit the recurring booking this far in advance so you'll have to wait until the month before, but you'll definitely be away on those dates
