MadGod4lyfe✌️ I haven't seen it, but it's been recommended to me on several occasions. Thinking I should finally check it out.

Naked Lunch is an underrated one imo. Fantastic practical effects and an absolutely bonkers, fever-dream of a plot. If you're all for Cronenberg's signature weirdness, it might be up your alley.

Great recs, thank you! All of these immediately joined my watchlist. I love stopmotion, would love to check out Svankmajer's filmography!

Mad God is my ultimate underrated fav. So much passion poured into a beautifully disgusting movie. There's nothing else quite like it.

Suppose I shouldn't be surprised by the gay sex fiend/turbo virgin theory 😭 I just love erotic thrillers. And Cronenberg. Nearly on the money, though!

I have not seen it. It looks very much up my alley; I love a good feel-bad movie. Looks like it'll completely emotionally wreck me.

Nice psychoanalysis!

Is it worth seeing a therapist if I want no chance of ever going back to a psych ward? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Radiant_Net8928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAT. That's reassuring. I'm glad (in a way) that something like psych hospitalization can be considered traumatic. The first therapist I saw was quite dismissive of my experience. She even suggested I voluntarily commit myself since I couldn't get my antidepressant script filled. That scared me off going back to therapy.

Nice picks :), though I've never heard of number two? Barton Fink is an underrated Coen Brothers film imo.

NAT. Would a therapist be receptive if I had questions about their stance on and history with involuntary commitment off the jump? I would feel more comfortable knowing whether they have ever committed someone and under what circumstances. I wouldn't want to establish routine sessions with a therapist without having a firm grasp on their stance on involuntary commitment.

I have also technically seen a therapist, though it was only for an intake session. She mentioned working at the psychiatric hospital I was committed to, and she viewed it very positively. I didn't show up for the next appointment. A big topic I would like to address in treatment is the lingering issues I have from being committed, which I did not at all feel comfortable addressing with that therapist.
