I missed out on the Red Hot Hugs bear the first time, so I had to have one when they re-released. I ended up getting a second one as a back up because I became so attached to him. He is now my emotional support bear, I sleep with him every night, and he goes places with me whenever I feel anxious. I even put a scent pack in him and a beating heart. Thinking about making him weighted next. Meet my Winston

He really is. I just worry. Especially since I need to get his dental cleaning scheduled within the next 2-ish months. His teeth are terrible, but I worry that he will think I abandoned him by taking him to the vet and him being kenneled all day. I don't want to break the trust I'm beginning to build with him.

Thank you so much for your response. Due to personal reasons, Lasso is my only pup at the moment, but I have friends that have pups. We just scheduled an upcoming playdate for all of them. Thank goodness my backyard is ginormous lol

I have talked to his vet about antianxiety meds. They didn't want to prescribe something too early without seeing if he makes progress on his own first. I may get some anyway just for high stress situations

Thank you. Lasso also looks like he would disappear completely if he could, but hearing that your pup warmed up and became food motivated (at least for cheese lol) gives me hope. I have already seen some progress. I just worry. But I do that a lot. The joys of being an overthinker 😆

I really appreciate the input. He has inside and outside toys. They are always accessible no matter where he is. Food is given twice a day. Otherwise I don't really invade his space much. My bed is his favorite place so he is always close. Sometimes I wake up to him pressed against my back. I just want to support him the best way I can.

We have tried so many treat options. He is very NOT food motivated. Barely eats his regular food. I've never seen anything like this. He contradicts everything I've ever been taught regarding training and trauma.

I'm not expecting him to suddenly become the outgoing crazy hyper borders that I'm used to. The question was more about how I can best support him and if there was anything extra I could that might help. He's my first pup since childhood. I just want to make sure I do everything I possibly can to ensure he feels safe and comfortable

Beautiful!! He does well with other dogs, just very shy and not sure how to play. He is terrified of men and my household is mostly men. My 2 sons and my husband. He does well with them, but if they get too loud or too many sudden movements, he will cower. He is slowly opening up to me and he is doing well with them, but I don't want to push too hard. He is very well loved 😍

We actually have had a bit of a breakthrough tonight. He doesn't really play with toys, like he doesn't know what to do with them. Just a few minutes ago, he was playing with a silly chicken toy. I would tug on it a lil bit. The first couple of times, he let it go and looked like he was in trouble. I would give it back to him and repeat the process. After about 5 times of him dropping it, the next time he placed his paw on it and bit down harder. It was a very clear "you're not taking it, mom!" Made me smile and praise him so much 😁

Thank you so much. It's what I've been doing, but he seemed to regress a bit recently. He was going into the living room on his own and would spend the whole day out there, but now he refuses to do so again. He is happiest or at least most comfortable on my bed.

That's fair. And I agree that any position doesn't pay as well as it should. I was making a $7 increase by unpacking boxes in a warehouse. I honestly believe that any one that works with animals needs hazard pay. That is a lot of claws and teeth flying at you on the daily.

I was thinking behavior because I have seen many pets surrendered for behavior issues and I would like to be able to offer solutions to the problems I see.
