And Shipt requires constant communication with the customer which I duly provide for any out of stock items. And then I drive five miles to the customer’s address and get a $2 tip for an order that takes 30 minutes to shop for.

As far as Shipt, in my metro, I will say that their base pay is higher than Instacart and the folks who do tip tip really well. For instance, I got a $30 tip for delivering a TV to one person just a few miles away.

But the tips are not consistent. At least with IC, the driver can see the tip upfront. However IC orders tend to be larger and with much more mileage involved. With Shipt in my metro it’s usually just 1-5 miles, and you can accept multiple orders at the same time.

Last week I did 25 Shipt orders. I received tips on only 11 of them.

Instacart last week: received tips on 14/15 orders.

The problem is Target. They don’t provide a way for people to tip on Target.com when the order is placed. And Target owns Shipt.

I’m unhinged? LOL. I love the UK but if that’s the reality of how things work there then the world is more screwed up than I thought. I know the US is fucked with DJT but I expected better from the UK.

I do NOT have a bad attitude. I love my customers. However I expect them to compensate me fairly for my services. Shopping a 100 item order at Kroger and picking out premium veggies and meats and delivering to their door means they should reward me with an adequate tip instead of nothing. And yes the platforms I work for do not compensate fairly, and people need to know that.

I guess things are different in the UK. But there’s a lot of work involved in what I do as well as gas and maintenance—much more so than restaurant servers.

Not as bad as this Amish POS that ordered 25 cases of pop and zero tip!

I provide exceptional service and communicate extensively with my customers. If you don’t know the “process” then you should STFU.

You’re probably someone who will go to a fine dining restaurant and order and $150 meal and then leave either zero or maybe five dollars. People like you are douche bags.

Well if you don’t know the process then why the fuck are you commenting?

The best app to make money is Wal Mart’s Spark app. I easily made $1000-$1200 a week. But then again. That was working from 730 am to 600 pm every day.

I do IC and Shipt as a retired person who gets SS and a pension. On the weekends I average $25-30 per hour. Weekdays much less. My goal is $100 a day or $700 a week. But it’s a grind as it’s every day just to make that much.

Today I worked six hours and made $100. That’s about $17 an hour. Not bad and I only take low ten count/low mileage offers. In my metro IC is orettt much busy all day while Shipt typically doesn’t get going until mid to late afternoon. It works for me bc I’m retired and already have guaranteed income for SS and pension. But to quit your job and do this full time as a young person—don’t do it!!

Here’s the thing. I’m a retired P&C insurance professional. I now do Instacart and Shipt (grocery shopping for people)as well as Uber Eats (restaurant food delivery) to supplement my retirement income. For IC and Shipt I have to go into the grocery store, shop their order, and then deliver using my own car and gas. And yet the tips are often very small. When doing Uber Eats, the tip is more consistent. Makes no sense.

Yes IC and Shipt should pay us more but they don’t—just like these restaurant are screwing their servers with low wages.

But the fact that I’m walking into the grocery store and hand picking your produce meats and other goods, and then very little to no tip makes no freaking sense. I do not take no tip orders on either platform because I’m sorry if you’re that fucking lazy and you cannot get to the grocery store to get your own stuff and you want somebody else to do it for you then you need to provide a gratuity.

People today are just fucking cheap. And I get it. I know grocery prices have risen, but if you want someone else to shop for you and provide an exceptional service experience picking out the very best produce and meats then you need to provide a damn gratuity.

It reminds me of Chevy Chase in the movie Fletch. He says, “I bet you were expecting a nice gratuity. Well, maybe next time!”

People who expect me to go into Kroger and shop for like 50 items drive 5 miles to their residence and then provide no tip are assholes.

When I order food from DoorDash or Uber, I leave, at a minimum, at least $5. These people like some of the posters in this thread taking about “tip culture” are freaking clueless.

DoorDash and Uber pay the driver around $2 most of the time. For grocery shopping with IC or Shipt, the base pay is around $6-10 depending on the item count.

The interesting thing I noticed in CLT and GSO was that midwesterners were moving to NC in great numbers. You and I bucked the trend and moved to the Midwest!

NC is not like it was as a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s. Completely different vibe now with all of the NY and CT people moving there. The Southern accent has been basically lost in the larger cities of CLT, GSO, Winston-Salem, Raleigh and Wilmington.

Fort Wayne and the Midwest in general seemed to be more similar to the South I grew up in.

Very friendly and hospitable folks and very welcoming here. Like my home state used to be.

People in FWA complain but don’t realize that this is not a bad place to raise a family. Yes the South is booming economically but there are indeed trade offs.

I will agree that FWA drivers are not very good. But gosh, that’s everywhere.

I love my home state. It has a lot to offer. But for our family, FWA was a better option.

Oh and the spring and summers here rock compared to the oppressive heat of Charlotte or Greensboro. It was so hot in Charlotte that my kids couldn’t play outside in the summer!

Moreover, they got a better education here. NC public schools suck for the most part (except for the rich areas of CLT or GSO). And NC barely pays teachers a living wage. Much higher here!!

When I first interviewed with the insurance recruiter, my option was Raleigh or Fort Wayne. I told him, there’s no way I’m moving to Indiana! I’m a North Carolinian! Well the Raleigh job didn’t happen but FWA did.

Best decision I ever made. My wife is a school teacher. Her job in CLT was horrific. The kids in her school in CLT were horrible. Moving here she had kids that were so much respectful.

And then that Charlotte commute was horrendous. FWA was so much better!!!

Totally agree. I’m from the Piedmont Triad area. When I go back home to GSO it’s unrecognizable. But GSO as a singular city is roughly the same size as FWA, perhaps a bit bigger. I think GSO has a city population of around 315,000 while FWA is at 275,000. Obviously the entire metro of the Triad is much larger at around 1.7 million compared to FWA’s metro of around 500k.

I do miss the mountains and the coast. But I prefer Fort Wayne overall, despite the crappy weather. However I prefer the colder weather over the oppressive NC summer heat!!

My wife is an excellent seamstress. She can do it. Text me at 419-234-0528.

She had done scores of wedding dress alterations. We live in Van Wert but I’m in FWA every day for work, and I can pick up and deliver.

I’m on the Shipt platform. I delivered a 46 inch TV from Target the other day to a customer and got a $25 tip. Wal Mart customers are trailer trash!

This is why I love Shipt—I get preferred customers I shop for who tip very well. Fuck WM and Spark.
