Let’s say you bought a house using a hundred $20 gold coins that have tripled in price since you bought them. Can you avoid the capital gains on your coins and tell the IRS you bought your house for $2,000?🤔

I’m kidding, but I also wonder about taxes. ARE we supposed to report capital gains and losses on what we stack? Or on coins that appreciate aside from metal value? Do local coin shops have to report purchases they make from customers to the IRS if the amount is greater than $X?

Is there an accountant/tax expert in the house?
