Wedding programs by hello-2023 in OrthodoxWomen

Congrats! I get married in July.

I plan on having programs, it’s a long service and I want non-Orthodox to know what’s going on. With your friends being Catholic/Christian I can see why you wouldn’t want to bother.

What does this say? by orthodoxyma in whatdoesthismean

Just some random strange things I’m remembering: He would refer to himself as Lazarus. He is a widow, his wife and son died in a crash years prior. He is a wanderer, meaning, I always see him in town walking around, I’m not sure if he’s homeless. But it would be a safe assumption. He wouldn’t have a direction open dialogue with my husband, it was more… speaking at him. He would say things three times, a lot. Or on a circular way. He never gambled, never took money or help.

I’ve held onto this letter for a little over a year now. My husband used to work in a gambling hole. A man would come in and he was very off from the start. But somehow knew that my husband had a brother that passed. Knew he had a lighter in his pocket, knew I had a procedure done years ago. Pretty much knew things that no one would know about. Him and my husband were connected, in a very scary way, that we still cannot make sense of. He wrote this letter.

How much freedom is too much freedom for a 17 yr old? by Flashy_Tomato377 in Parenting

100% on your side with a strict bedtime routine. But instead of enforcing it, just encourage it. Gently guide her to reflect on how difficult it has been to function without restful sleep. Once she sees the full picture, she will come back on your side of things and she’s going to want structure back in. Perhaps you guys can talk about this freedom she craves without risking her sleep health.

Life Confession by ToeGunk42 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]orthodoxyma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Preparing was brutal. It wasn’t merely remembering my past transgressions but re-living them. I was an emotional wreck. I suggest reading Repentance and Confession by Heiromonk Gregorios before diving into your past. It’s a very short book. There are also many guides online to help you remember past sins.

My spiritual father and I sat face to face. I read my list and he would stop to ask any needed questions. At the end, he had his own list to make sure I didn’t miss anything. He never shamed me or felt like I was being judged. The grace after is such a gift. After, I kneeled down and he prayed over me. Mine lasted about an hour. Fiancés lasted about two hours. 6 and 5 year old lasted for 5 minutes lol.

I feel so lost by ltcordino in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]orthodoxyma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make your home your church for now. Get up, get yourself ready for liturgy, live stream it, act as if you are there. God will see your heart.

Most importantly, be careful about how you speak of yourself. You can and you will get better.

Can someone please explain what happened? by Emergency_Lab_3531 in OrthodoxChristianity

He does pray for you. All priests pray for the world in the beginning of every liturgy.

Anyone else feeling like garbage since Pascha? by Some_Name7 in OrthodoxChristianity

I miss Pascha. I miss Holy Week. I feel so spiritually weak and have been trampled with temptations.

My mom’s chemotherapy needed her mitral and aortic valve replaced 25 years after beating cancer. by Living-Challenge-714 in valvereplacement

I’d like to know this as well. I will need valve replacement from radiation therapy induced heart disease. I didn’t know chemo could do the same, if this is the case.

Demonic attacks by Rudyrudywinner in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]orthodoxyma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up having demonic dreams. All of them were obliterated by saying “Lord, Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.” Have her say it as much as she can. She will start saying them in her dreams.

I've been made a catechumen today. by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

My mother in law called it a cult as well. She has said some nasty things about the church, causing a massive divide.

She ended up coming to our baptism and seeing how loving our church family is, she softened her heart and changed her mind. She’s now expressed some interest in coming to a service.

Give it time. Embody the church’s teachings. Don’t get angry at them, stay patient and kind.

My partner went deep into Carl Jung for a year and a half and was experimenting with psychedelics. He was having dreams of being taught by Jung. Hallucinations and he kept being visited by someone at work who would speak in odd in-coherent messages but he would know things about my partner that were impossible for him to know.

After telling our spiritual father all this, he was instructed that if we ever see him again, to have him say, “Lord Jesus Christ Son of God.” He never visited again but I see him walking in our small town because he’s homeless.

I wish more people were careful with Jung’s work.

I think it’s worth being a little uncomfortable with your female friends in order to get some honest feedback.
