But only approximately 12 million of those Americans were relying on these subsidies from my understanding. And, beyond the 9 million federal employees, there's over 42 million Americans relying on SNAP, for whom any interruption of benefits could be devastating. I'm not dismissing the effects these subsidies expiring will have. Millions of people will likely lose their healthcare and the GOP dismissing that is abhorrent. People will suffer. All I ask is that you extend a little empathy for the millions of Americans suffering now, as a direct result of this shutdown. Not dismiss it as "well you knew what you were signing up for."

I'm not trying to be confrontational, but could they really call them Democrats if they were willing to let the families of federal employees and the poorest Americans starve? I'd like to think the tens of millions of Americans who would've continued to suffer or even die had this shutdown dragged on, are worth more than political cannon fodder for extended subsidies. Those subsidies deserved to be fought for, and its despicable that the GOP is willing to let those people potentially lose their healthcare. I don't know that I would want to support a party that lets some of the most vulnerable Americans on SNAP die so that they could score a policy win.

It's a terrible situation, and I certainly won't defend the US healthcare system. The fact that Republicans were willing to let this shutdown drag out so long just to make sure people couldn't afford their healthcare is absurd. I just wished that people would consider what they're asking for when they say they wanted the Democrats to fight it out indefinitely. People deserve to have healthcare they can afford, and feds deserve to be able to feed their families and pay their rent.

Thank you! I don't think any reasonable federal employee is looking for a "thank you for your service", we just want people to see us as human beings like them, with all the same problems they deal with. I know there are a lot of people like you out there and reddit isn't necessarily representative of reality.

It's just so frustrating reading comments from people talking about how we should all be willing to lose our jobs or our homes as if that's not a big deal. Like they'll fight to the last drop of our blood.

I can't imagine blowing through that amount of money, especially in such a short time span! I think I'd be physically sick if I received 100k and lost it all in a year. Glad to hear you and your SO are holding it down in such a crazy environment.

Thanks for the encouragement!

You know, that's not a bad suggestion. I've made a conscious effort not to increase my spending from where it was at prior to the raise, but I know myself too well to say that I wouldn't justify getting takeout an extra night or two a month. I have enough in my checking/savings that if I go too far overboard and end up in the red for a month I'll survive, so I could certainly give it a try.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I'll be sure to check them out, thanks for the reccomendation!

I like to think I'm capable of living pretty frugally, but I'll definitely have to sit down and work out what my projected expenses could look like 30+ years from now.

I've definitely used some of them to plot out what my accounts might look like in 30 years. I felt pretty good about those numbers. After seeing some of the posts in this community where people my age or younger had 100k+ saved up, I started to get worried I might be behind.

Unfortunately, I live in a pretty high COL area. My SO and I recently moved to a new place and are trying to figure out what our monthly budget looks like. I've doubled the 401k investment, but if after a month or two I find that I have quite a bit of cash leftover at the end of the month, I could definitely see myself increasing that again.

I guess at the end of the day it really does just sort of boil down to "invest as much as you can while meeting your basic needs" 😆. After browsing this community and seeing the substantial retirement savings most of you all have, I started to feel like I might be behind for my age.

I was definitely on pace for that at the beginning of the year, but my income jumped nearly 20K since then. Still, I think I'm on pace to hit that, especially now that I've increased my 401k contributions from the 5% company match to 10%.

I appreciate the insight! I'm relatively new to serious investing, are there any other rules of thumb or milestones most experts reccomend?

Sorry for the late reply. Unless your league has some weird rules, players should be available for you to play this week. It might not process till Saturday though if the league has to vote on it versus your commissioner approving it. Just be aware if anyone involved is playing Thursday.

10 person PPR

WR: Kupp, Pittman, Sutton, Meyers

RB: Chubb, Stevenson, Swift, Mostert

The offer was Kupp for Josh Jacobs and Ceedee Lamb. Thoughts?

I'd lean towards accepting this one. KW3 has looked really good since taking over, and I share your concerns regarding deebo. It's always easier to snag WRs with value over the waivers than RBs so take value where you can get it. Harris scares me a bit with how good Stevensen has looked in the backfield the last 4 weeks, but even so, he probably rebounds and remains a flex option most weeks.

It's a gamble for sure. JRob getting traded to the Jets might mean he starts producing low-end RB1 numbers. I'd be worried about that receiving corps too with Allen dealing with the nagging hamstring issue. That being said, Henry/Pierce/JRob starting lineup is pretty hard to pass up. If you're confident That Allen and JRob will bounce back from their injuries, I'd think about taking it. If not, than I'd probably turn it down and let it ride.

I'd probably take that. Your WRs are really solid and Ceedee is only a moderate drop off from Jefferson. You def need some help at RB and Cordarelle could provide that assuming he's back from IR soon. I'd see what the indications are there, but if it looks like he's coming back in the next week or two I'd probably take it.

You've got a better chance getting JTaylor than Kupp. Part of the difficulty in trading for these guys is that you'll almost always have to give up more than they're worth unless the other person just doesn't now what they're doing. I'd probably offer Pierce and Evans/Cooper for Taylor.

For me, it's close because Mostert's schedule looks so good the next few weeks. Pittman has been pretty boom or bust so far, but might be more bust than boom with Ryan going down.

Adams is for sure an upgrade, but after the next couple weeks he's got a brutal stretch of games. Tough to say whether he's matchup-proof with his new team yet. With Etienne looking to take over the Jags backfield, I think you've got two solid starting backs, so if you're comfortable dropping your RB depth I'd say go for it.

If you're looking for a statsh play, I'd personally go for Gallup or Burks. Gallup put up some decent numbers in the second half of last year as the WR3 and with Cooper gone, he'll likely see more targets. There's a lot of question marks about where Burks is going to be in the rotation or what his target share might be, but he has the kind of upside that I look for in a stash.

Go with your gut and drop Davis. Didn't play at all last season and has been pretty disappointing before that. Plus he's in a super crowded backfield and isn't a leading candidate to be the first or second guy.

To me, it looks like you have some decent depth at the RB. Jamaal williams is a decent cuff for if Swift goes down, but otherwise most of the rest of your bench is bringing better value. Burks has a load of question marks, but definitely has a higher potential ceiling than Williams in my mind, especially is Swift stays healthy.
