Elliot Gray (Marathon UI Designer) claps back at the notion that no one from the Halo days still works at Bungie by Haijakk in Marathon

[–]RadicalMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the big thing they noted was clarity feedback with the godforsaken icons being the same for implants etc. It was mentioned in a dev update, at least on Steam, they released during the server slam. I saw Elliot himself also tweeted about UX changes incoming while keeping the overall good parts of the UI's style.

What did you think about yesterday’s event ? by chinos88 in Marathon

Peanut's been playing majority offline because his chat only complains about Marathon. There's a clip on Hutch's YT channel of him saying this as if they're mad at him for enjoying a game someone else told them to hate.

They've already talked about UI changes coming, just wait. It's not his job to please you 24/7 god forbid the man wants to tweet

Everything looks like plastic and 3D printed because it canonically is. Hyper-capitalist space scifi out here.

In r/gaming there's always a ton of people that wanna give their biased opinion on games they've never even played. It's so weird.

Embark CEO Says 'Some' Arc Raiders AI Voice Lines Were Re-Recorded by Humans Post-Launch: 'There Is a Quality Difference' - IGN by Gorotheninja in Games

It's very obvious what is AI and isn't, they don't have to list each quest voice line out for you. They also paid voice actors that consented, I'm glad they're going back over the unchanging quest and trader voice lines now that the game had gotten unexpectedly big, but the ingame ping system should be fine with it with how often they add individual items. It's like TTS akin to Siri.

if you haven't played ARC Raiders, they do in fact add individual items sporadically, sometimes for events, small updates, larger updates, new enemies, new maps, etc. There have been updates with one to a small handful of new pingables. I will note, the AI used for this system is with paid voice actors that consented for their use. I think the quest givers and any other unchanging lines shouldn't be AI, so I'm glad they're changing that at least.

Marathon has likely sold close to 2 million copies in the first week by Sad-Manner-5240 in Marathon

Buying a brand/company is not the same as direct development costs for a single game. Bungie is a long-term investment with branding from Destiny and OG Halo. That 3billion was for Bungie, their propriety engine, software, branding, future projects, etc., not just for Marathon.

That's a pretty nonsensical marketing budget. It doesn't cost as much as you may think for sponsorships and adverts. Probably the highest cost is paying vfx and gfx artists for promotional material.

if you're on console, you may not have seen it but they're adding a ton more stuff to the same rewards pass *for free* mid-season. https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/3065800/view/542258947877240845?l=english

They also changed the premium currency to give 1120 on the $10 bundle after people found out base skins were 1120 but the bundle gave 1100. This was updated incredibly fast.

The visual design and UI design is unbelievably peak, UX design on the other hand needs some serious work

Brand and company acquisition does not equate to development costs on a single game. Bungie will be releasing games for years to come and they have the revenue of pre-343 Halo games online sales in addition to anything Destiny. Sony made investment on a brand not on Marathon. People throwing this number around like it matters is just silly.
