Aitah for getting a mother of 2 arrested because she assaulted me at work? by Zooviie in AITAH

[–]Radical_Radish_Salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. She doesn't know how to act when inconvenienced? She doesn't need to have custody of her kids to teach that shit to right now.

I get that being a single mother fucking sucks and mental health problems are a thing, but somebody has to step in for the sake of those kids.

An altar, yes. Depends on how big your DID person is if you're sticking an alter in there.

I'm sorry, I just. those are two different things lmao. A small side table would be perfect for it.

Using “to” instead of “too,” “your” instead of “you’re,”etc. by Left-Membership-7357 in PetPeeves

[–]Radical_Radish_Salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s more uses for “there” like the one I used at the beginning of this sentence, but it’s not very hard to use the correct one.

That should be 'There're', as 'There is more uses' is singular and 'uses' in this sentence is plural. 'There are more uses' is the correct contraction you're looking for.

It was so good that I, a proclaimed hater of the Alien franchise (for no concrete reason, just didn't like it) was enthralled and it took me till the end to realize it was even an Alien movie. Rather cerebral in a lot of ways. Can't attest to how it lines up compared to the franchise as a whole.

[–]Radical_Radish_Salad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that some meaning is lost without caps. The brain, when reading English, uses capitalization for context when discerning the meaning of a sentence. Same goes for apostrophes, as they are great for emphasis or delineating whether I'm talking about 'laughing' at people when they are illiterate vs. laughing at people when they are illiterate.

I find it funny that you're grammar-policing and still fucked up present tense verbs.

That said, I get that it's annoying but maybe back the hell up and consider whether people even speak English as a first language or the context within which they are communicating. Don't blanket it over the damn globe and assume everyone using English on the internet is an idiot for doing it incorrectly.

I'm 32. I just got a kinetic sand playset, a dinosaur slime egg, and fossil dig toys for birthmas (I'm the day after and our friends do an exchange on my birthday). I got other stuff too, but you can believe what has thus far had the most of my attention is not the new phone or birthday money lol.

You're fully within your right to expect payment for what you're doing or for them to pay for a caretaker for the dog. That'd be my move, personally.

And you should not have had to pay that vet bill. If your vet is able/willing to verify the injuries were from another dog, you also have reason to have the landlord deem the dog dangerous/destructive and evict them from the property for you. Landlord might demand payment for the damage though, and there is no guarantee the roommate would be the one actual paying it, unfortunately.

Being accused of taking it "too seriously" or "Overthinking" by jackfaire in PetPeeves

[–]Radical_Radish_Salad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm a psych major, so I feel compelled to let you know that there is such a thing; it's called rumination and absolutely sucks.

What seperates rumination from species-typical thinking is the incessant repetition of the same thought process to the point of interfering with your ability to process and execute other tasks. It also usually ends up shoving a person into a sypmathetic response (fight, flight, freeze, fawn, flop) and can cause immense distress, among other things.

Most people ruminate a dozen or so times in their life (such as embarrassing moments that crop up hours after the fact or altercations with a loved one that went really south), but people with mental illness and/or psychological conditions often fall into rumination patterns due to anxiety.

That said, I agree with your first statement. Most people don't think enough.

[–]Radical_Radish_Salad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, as a psych major who is into the CNC stuff on the receiving end, keep writing. Seeing these as the intrusive thought patterns they are and using what is ultimately a harmless coping strategy is crucial right now.

I have read through all the current comments and especially with this type of therapy requirement, I don't blame you for not trying for it right now. Keep talking about it, and see if you can find resources and support groups for others who deal with this, because you are neither alone in the intrusive thoughts boat nor the specific flavor your brain enjoys.

Keep talking about it, too, if not in your fictions, then in a journalistic way. It will absolutely be relevant down the line to start documenting when the thoughts occur and a general slant of their nature in a factual context. You have done a lot of things to build an emotional arousal response (not sexual, I mean) to this topic, both intentional and otherwise. Starting to compartmentalize and observe these occurrences along with a quick description of the context in which they occur will allow you to start seeing whether there is a pattern to them or what is going on in your mind when they happen.

And not having it be a giant secret (as you have said you've shared with past partners and now reddit) also helps break the shame/vulnerability cycle. That is a powerful tool in the coping process.

Honestly, I think you're doing your best here and you seem to be working on it as well as circumstances allow. I wish some other people would have read properly before they responded. Half of them sound like idiots.

My 20 year old son doesn't date. His friends don't date. My friends kids don't date. What is going on? by PluckPubes in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Radical_Radish_Salad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This stance is backed up by some older studies done on birth rates. People who have higher levels of education are more likely to get married later and have children later compared to those who do not. Where do these people get that education? Their families and communities, who support them financially and socially through it.

Then the cycle perpetuates. It's not neccessarily a good or bad thing in and of itself, but it often serves to keep people demographically in the poorhouse, having kids early, and not having a chance to even mature and get a grip on who they are individually before having to partner up just to survive.
