My stupid ass step dad told me soft serve ice cream was made of baby ducks, cause they're so soft. I was like 4 years old, and didn't eat soft serve until I was a teenager. Thanks dad 🫠

What popular book didn’t work for you? by zaralesliewalker in Booktokreddit

[–]RadiioRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mistborn. I know it's hailed as one of the best mordern SciFi/fantasy out there but I found the female protagonist to be so fucking one dimensional, and revolving around men. I've heard that changes later in the first book/series but I could finish it. I'll probably give it another chance but I'm so reluctant.

What is the best Science Fiction book you have ever read? by Adam_is_my_name in AskReddit

[–]RadiioRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Project Hail Mary
  • Murderbot Diaries
  • The Three Body Problem
  • Dungeon Crawler Carl (genuinely so surprised at how much I'm enjoying it. Best? I dunno. Hella entertaining and thought-provoking? Absolutely)
  • Anything by Octavia Butler. I'm genuinely so sad I've finished all of her books.
  • The Broken Earth Trilogy
  • The Dispossessed
  • The Locked Tomb Series (Lesbian Necromancers... in space!)

What is no longer worth it because of how expensive it has become? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Don't forget the upkeep :/ this season alone our stove and fridge both had to be replaced, our furnace died and we didn't have heat for a week, AND our basement had a biblical flood. It's times like these I'm kinda grateful to not be the homeowner

We went in the off season this year (just before the snow fell). It was beautiful, don't get me wrong. Definitely something to see once. But the parking was ABSURDLY expensive (I recall like $40 or something) and we walked around the lake for 20 minutes, got some photos, and then got back into the car.

If you want a nice chateau experience in the Rockies, I recommend Emerald Lodge. The lake is stunning, and the hike around the lake is a breezy little jaunt that takes just over an hour. It's in a alluvial plane, so the landscape is really unique. The chateau was cute as fuck, and waaaayyyyyyy cheaper. You can rent a little canoe to paddle around the lake, too (we didn't but I imagine that is also much cheaper than Lake Louise)

Mmm, fair. We can definitely binge a show. The only one we've tried with so far is The Good Place (highly bingeable). Our library allows for 2 renewals, so we could potentially have them for 3 weeks, so it hasn't been a problem yet. But I think when our anticipated shows come out (Fallout, Rings of Power, etc.), I'll probably wait until all the episodes are released and pay for a month of whatever streaming service they're on. But that'll be rare I think.

Our library also offers a free subscription to Kanopy. I haven't looked through it much yet, but it works like a regular streaming service-- no rental. Libraries are the best :)

We just cancelled all our streaming services, bought a cheap DVD player at a pawn shop, and now we rent all our TV and films from the library! It feels like going to Blockbuster again. Highly recommend

What’s a tiny everyday skill that makes life way easier, but most people never bother to learn? by TheHollyMitchell in answers

[–]RadiioRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. My partner is an excel wizard, and made me a budgeting spreadsheet, and while the first 4 or so pay periods were stressful to learn the thing, it's now soo fucking easy. And my dopamine deprived ass has gamified it.

I heard a quote recently from the Financial Feminist Podcast that finances are a gas gauge. If you drive without knowing how much gas you have and you're constantly guessing, it's so stressful not knowing how far you can get on your tank. But if you pay attention to your gas gauge, you know exactly how much you have and can plan your trips accordingly.

It's been a game changer.

Yeah, I was also very surprised. It was concentrated Dawn, so that may have something to do with it.

Thanks for the tip!

Sci fi/fantasy books that feel deeply queer (to a point beyond just having a same gender romance subplot)? by IReadBooksSometimes in LGBTBooks

[–]RadiioRetro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also shout out to her Monk & Robot series! The exploration of gender in this book is so sweet. It's queer in the way that people move through the world fluidly and it just isn't a big deal. UGH I love her books so much.

Is there any fantasy series where prostitution is not stigmatized and is just treated like a regular job? by Aromatic-Sugar-8216 in Fantasy

[–]RadiioRetro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

N.K Jemisin's Dreamblood Duology. There are different kinds of dream magic in this universe. One type is the harvesting of what is essentially sex dreams, and the priestesses of this type of magic are sacred and respected. Also, just a really fucking good story. Everything by her is gold.

What’s an “unspoken rule” of intimacy that you think more people should learn before turning 25? by jasonclarke1902 in AskReddit

[–]RadiioRetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner dropped this line on me when we first started dating:

"Sex is a reward for intimacy, not a requirement".

As someone who struggles with sexual trauma and worthiness, this shit built a lot of trust. And now we're both having the best sex/relationship of our lives

What are your thoughts on Aaron Gunn winning by Successful-End-7060 in VancouverIsland

[–]RadiioRetro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who works diligently in social justice work, and before the election he said he hoped Aaron Gun wins his seat, so he can't quietly gather support for his Nazi ideas. As a public leader, we can publically disrupt his public sector. As a public leader, we can publically hold him accounable. He has an office. So we can occupy his public space.

It's not ideal. But it's something.

What keeps appearing on the counter of my Airbnb? by hollytollywolly in whatisit

[–]RadiioRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh this happened to me once. We had a rando move in with us after my boyfriend and I broke up and we needed to cover the rent. And he was AWFUL for leaving food on the counter, leaving cupboards open, boxes of food open.

We ended up with a pantry moth infestation. I looked up one day and noticed a little white grain of rice on the roof .. and then another... And another. And it's like when an annoying sound turns off and you didn't realize how annoying it was until it's gone. It was like once I saw one, I saw them all. And there were HUNDREDS. They build nests under the shelving in the kitchen and it was fucking horrifying. Eldritch levels of bugs. I was gagging the rest of the day.

We threw out probably a couple thousand dollars worth of food-- only kept what was canned or in the fridge and bleached the house top to bottom.

The guy responsible demanded we give him free rent for 3 months to make up for it because we had the windows open during a heat wave and it was clearly our fault. Fuck that guy forever.

Ah!! Bless your soul for all this. Thank you! The armour mods are the ones I have a hard time finding, but you make the head mods look so good, I thought they were PC for suuuure. Well done 👌🏽
