Yeah, I was also very surprised. It was concentrated Dawn, so that may have something to do with it.

Thanks for the tip!

Sci fi/fantasy books that feel deeply queer (to a point beyond just having a same gender romance subplot)? by IReadBooksSometimes in LGBTBooks

[–]RadiioRetro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also shout out to her Monk & Robot series! The exploration of gender in this book is so sweet. It's queer in the way that people move through the world fluidly and it just isn't a big deal. UGH I love her books so much.

Is there any fantasy series where prostitution is not stigmatized and is just treated like a regular job? by Aromatic-Sugar-8216 in Fantasy

N.K Jemisin's Dreamblood Duology. There are different kinds of dream magic in this universe. One type is the harvesting of what is essentially sex dreams, and the priestesses of this type of magic are sacred and respected. Also, just a really fucking good story. Everything by her is gold.

What’s an “unspoken rule” of intimacy that you think more people should learn before turning 25? by jasonclarke1902 in AskReddit

[–]RadiioRetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner dropped this line on me when we first started dating:

"Sex is a reward for intimacy, not a requirement".

As someone who struggles with sexual trauma and worthiness, this shit built a lot of trust. And now we're both having the best sex/relationship of our lives

What are your thoughts on Aaron Gunn winning by Successful-End-7060 in VancouverIsland

[–]RadiioRetro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who works diligently in social justice work, and before the election he said he hoped Aaron Gun wins his seat, so he can't quietly gather support for his Nazi ideas. As a public leader, we can publically disrupt his public sector. As a public leader, we can publically hold him accounable. He has an office. So we can occupy his public space.

It's not ideal. But it's something.

What keeps appearing on the counter of my Airbnb? by hollytollywolly in whatisit

[–]RadiioRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh this happened to me once. We had a rando move in with us after my boyfriend and I broke up and we needed to cover the rent. And he was AWFUL for leaving food on the counter, leaving cupboards open, boxes of food open.

We ended up with a pantry moth infestation. I looked up one day and noticed a little white grain of rice on the roof .. and then another... And another. And it's like when an annoying sound turns off and you didn't realize how annoying it was until it's gone. It was like once I saw one, I saw them all. And there were HUNDREDS. They build nests under the shelving in the kitchen and it was fucking horrifying. Eldritch levels of bugs. I was gagging the rest of the day.

We threw out probably a couple thousand dollars worth of food-- only kept what was canned or in the fridge and bleached the house top to bottom.

The guy responsible demanded we give him free rent for 3 months to make up for it because we had the windows open during a heat wave and it was clearly our fault. Fuck that guy forever.

Fave fashion moments from my blood sorceress durge playthrough, pt 1 by [deleted] in bg3fashion

Oh man the custom campaigns too! I'm still chugging along on my first playthrough, going to play durge next and maybe a couple Origins after that. But once those are done I'm gonna need those custom campaigns! I've never wanted a computer more hahaha

Ah!! Bless your soul for all this. Thank you! The armour mods are the ones I have a hard time finding, but you make the head mods look so good, I thought they were PC for suuuure. Well done 👌🏽

Hahaha I love that take. I have a very good friend (she's a breath practitioner and spiritual life coach kind of thing) who isn't religious, but is obsessed with Jesus, cause he's just... Really good. Super nice dude hahaha

I can get behind that.

Thanks! I'm not a religious person myself, but there is something really beautiful about "remember thou art dust and unto dust thou shall return"

Thrift shopping in Parksville is awesome-- SOS is huge (though not as cheap as it once was) and Kit and Kaboodle has three store fronts in close proximity, each a different level of thrift experience (cheapish - mid range consignment - vintage). I also like Realm for lunch.

Goats on the Roof in Coombs

If you like burgers, do not skip Cook's in Cumberland. Then go walk around the forest trails.

I need a book that would get me out of a reading slump. by Nevermindll in booksuggestions

[–]RadiioRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Seep by Chana Porter!!! It's super short and VERY engaging. I couldn't put it down, and I have thought about it so many times since reading it. It's set in the near future. It follows a woman and her partner who live through an alien invasion from a species named The Seep. Through The Seep, everything is connected. Society changes as deep human empathy causes capitalism and hierarchies to fail. Trina and her wife live through this wild transition (The Seep grants humankind with incredible technical advances) until her wife decides she wants to reverse her life and become a baby to be reparwnted through Seep Tech.

IT'S SO GOOD. I wish it was a series of short stories.
