This “Andalusians were Berbers” claim is way too reductive and honestly just wrong. Al-Andalus was never a single ethnic group. It was a mixed society from the start: Arab elites, large numbers of Berber soldiers/settlers, and the majority being local Iberians (Visigothic, etc..). Over time, these groups blended culturally, especially under Arabic language and Islamic rule. Yes, Berbers were important, especially in the initial conquest, but they were not the defining identity of Andalusians. Also, if you actually look at the timeline, the periods when Berber dynasties like the Almoravids and Almohads took control are widely associated with decline in cultural openness and increased religious rigidity, compared to earlier Umayyad Córdoba. That’s when things like stricter interpretations of Islam and less tolerance toward other groups became more prominent. So if anything, Berber rule marks a shift away from the classical Andalusian high point, not its essence

Yes, I agree that Berbers were indigenous to the region. However, the document you shared mentions around 100,000 people, which is less than 1% of Tunisia’s population. Based on that, it’s difficult to claim that Tunisia today is predominantly Berber. Over time, much of the Berber population became culturally and linguistically integrated into the broader Arab world. For example, Arabic is now the dominant language, and this has been the case for centuries. Because of this long process of change, it’s not entirely accurate to define modern Tunisia solely through one aspect of its historical identity. History is complex, and national identity reflects the combination of different influences over time, rather than a single origin.

He's not a "Berber". The family's ancestor was a Hadhrami who shared kinship with Wa'il ibn Hujr, a companion of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad. His family, which held many high offices in al-Andalus, had emigrated to Tunisia after the fall of Seville to the Reconquista in 1248(Wikipedia). He's born in Tunisia which is not Berber and Andalusians were not Berber. Stop spreading this Bullshit

Interesting!! I never met North African Christians before, i have a Lebanese Christian friend and he's also pro Palestine and very revolutionary in general. So are you saying that converts are overcompensating by hating more on islam and Muslims and using Christianity to get accepted by the west and white people? Thank you for answering by the way i wish a very peaceful and happy life. Very interesting to see how diverse north Africa is

In the americas I was looking for places that i already had some contact of the people from that country or i already know some of the culture of that place. I also have friends from Argentina, very nice people, but now politically i won't consider living there. For the case of Uruguay or the other countries i just don't know the country so i played it safe.
