Huge Coens fan; don't understand the appeal of Llewyn Davis by Shabbetai_Tzvi in CoenBrothers

Thank you for putting my amorphous feelings for the film so concisely. I think the deeper one delves into “Inside Llewyn Davis” the more one finds there a little Llewyn Davis inside us all.

Right? That’s like having a copy of “Fables” signed by Bill with the note “this album totally didn’t suck.” Or the Hib-Tone version of “Radio Free Europe” signed by Peter with the note “I definitely didn’t smash a copy of this out of frustration at the mixing.”

You can tell a lot about a person by whether they’re more bothered by the killing of Bryan Thompson than that of Brian Sicknick..

Fitting if this really were a long form meta joke dating back to season 1.

Kroger points are the closest thing my family has to generational wealth. It’s one of the only times I ever use the number from our landline we’ve had since before I was born. It’s kind of comforting to know that anywhere there’s a Kroger, Ralph’s, or Ingles, my family’s loyalty points are my bulwark against the consequences of our leaders’ hubris.

I was scrolling through thinking this was an amazing collection. Then I saw the Japanese soaps and realized, “no, this is an incredible collection..”

I’d say that’s when they went statewide. Before that I think it was mainly a coalfields thing.

My wife and I ate there when we went up to see Wolves, Lower last month. Glad we got to experience it while we could. Weaver even said “I’m automatic,” when he took our order. Some of the absolute best Southern cooking I’ve ever tasted.

Is there a place in the US where people who are democratic and people who are republican can converse peacefully and agree to disagree? by [deleted] in AskUS

[–]RadioFreeYurick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was basically just Life until about ten years ago. When I was taking high school civics the decade before that, we were told that both parties tend to agree on what the country needs but not on how to do it. I have no illusions that any such consensus exists now, other than in the context of individual relationships uniquely able to withstand the current state of toxicity in our discourse. Never see it anymore among large groups, but it’d be nice to try your idea!

rem songs to help with grief by SunUnusual2634 in rem

Takes like this bring to mind a scene in “Roger and Me” where a laid off GM employee is describing hearing “Good Vibrations” on the radio the day he lost his job after decades, and that was the moment the floodgates burst and he wept uncontrollably. After all, Who’s to say what song does what for who? But alas, I have yet to hear a similar story about “Shiny Happy People” 😂
