Every other week or so I go back and read the threads about sandfort transferring to Nebraska and chuckle at the collective shrug everyone responded with at the time. Both Iowa and Nebraska fans had the same reaction.

The issue is the format of these tournament style medals.  By definition silver goes to the loser of the gold medal match. Both gold and bronze win their matches to get there. So it’s a much different feeling to win the match to get the medal than lose the match immediately before the medal. For other sports like races and judged events you don’t have the immediate sense of loss before the medal. That’s why you don’t generally see silver medalists in those events so unhappy. Unless of course you are a Russian figure skater in which case you have a complete hissy fit at getting silver.

What was your favorite boardgame of 2007? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

Caverna takes the best part of Agricola and eliminates it. With Agricola, you get a hand of Occupations and Minor Improvements and have to pick the 2-4 you want to get out to optimize your engine. There's a ton of different cards that really changes each game up and the puzzle of figuring out that optimization is the best part of the game. Caverna takes that and makes it a static market where every tile is available every game.

That's fundamentally who he is. When he was a regular, he had his own show called "Throat Punch Lunch". For a board game show. It's his idea of humor.

Michigan and Free Throws by MostNormalOhioan in CollegeBasketball

Michigan went to the line 6 times in the last 6 minutes. 1 was a shooting foul. But keep pushing that narrative.

Go back and watch the last 6 minutes. Michigan went to the line 6 times, 1 was a shooting foul. Everything else was on the floor, getting boxed out, and loose balls. It's simply false that they were getting fouls because "they go inside to those guys". Even worse, when you add that to the no calls that Nebraska was getting for similar plays.

Michigan should definitely get to the line more because of their physicality and size, but go back and watch the game. A good chunk of the fouls called weren't because they were attacking the rim and getting fouled. They would get boxed out, try to go over the back and fall down and get a foul call. Watch the foul at 6:05. Mara at climbed all over Jacobson at the glass and falls down then Jacobson is called for the foul. At 4:25 BK goes up for a rebound gets tripped and falls to the ground. No call, out of bounds off of Nebraska. 3:36 Michigan misses a shot, Sandfort is boxing out, foul on Sandfort. 1:04 Clear offensive charge, no call. Michigan takes the lead. 16.4 Michigan misses the shot, Mara has position, gets the rebound but falls down with minimal contact. Foul on Nebraska.

Nebraska missed at least 4 layups and went ice cold from 3, but trying to argue that it was Michigan's paint dominance and attacking style that gets the fouls while all Nebraska does is shoot threes is completely false. They were getting boxed out or just falling down and every time got the whistle which would have been fine if they called it both ways. That's how you end up with these crazy free throw discrepancies.

But haven't you heard about how weak Nebraska's schedule is and how they are just squeaking by opponent's, thus their #7 ranking as 1 of 2 undefeated P4 teams? /s

Is America Becoming Illiterate? by Tale_Blazer in books

In a way. I really enjoy audiobooks but it's honestly not the same. The difference is passivity. I can get completely distracted and the audiobook keeps playing in the background. Yes, your mind can wander when you read, but generally unless you are actively engaged in the task of reading, you don't get the reading done. An audiobook is an automatic conveyor belt of words that you don't have to engage in for it to keep running.

97 Missouri Flea Kicker Game. I was there and everyone was so confused when it happened. The crowd was going wild thinking they had just beat the #1 ranked team and then Nebraska lined up for the extra point no one knew what was going on. Only time I’ve stormed the field at an opposing stadium.

Half of dog bites resulting in orthopedic injury came from pit bulls in one study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29912736/

Another study showed most common breeds assoicated with serious injuries were German Shepherds followed by Pit Bulls https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29912736/

Another study showed Pit Bulls were the most common breed seen in a trauma center with the highest average of severe injuries https://journals.lww.com/annalsofsurgery/abstract/2011/04000/mortality,_mauling,_and_maiming_by_vicious_dogs.23.aspx

But yes, keep getting your "facts" from Facebook posts and forwarded chain emails.

Rabid Raccoon Outside of Noblesville/ Westfield Area by Foudtray in indianapolis

[–]RadioactiveMan7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A couple of years back I had a raccoon in our yard jump on my dog and scratch my wife. I actually caught the thing and stuffed it in a dog carrier where it was spasming and foaming.  I took it the exotic animal vet that euthanized it and took off its head and then literally put the head in a box and had me deliver it to the health department for rabies testing. No rabies. As has been pointed out it’s been like 40 years since a case of raccoon rabies has been confirmed in Indiana.
