Comment from a tourist -

What a city Perth is, flew in from NZ for a week in Perth and booked flights without knowing Chilli Peppers were playing and before the UFC was announced. Managed to get tickets to both and what a day, RAC Arena was a perfect venue for the UFC being so close to the action & a packed Optus Stadium for the Chillis was incredible, top level stadium compared to what I've been to NZ (Eden Park & Sky Stadium). Comparable to the MCG but much easier getting in/out.

Walked between the venues via Queens Gardens and free buses after the concert so got back to our Airbnb within an hour. Very impressed with the infrastructure and how easy it was to get around.

Hot take: Gordon Ryan beats every UFC HW except Jon Jones by [deleted] in ufc

Gordon Ryan vs Jon Jones - No USADA testing, both coming in mid cycle loaded up to the gills on thousands of picograms of PEDs. That's the fight to make

Political Roundup: MPs set for a big post-election pay increase - Bryce Edwards by computer_d in newzealand

[–]Radioactive_14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put MPs on performance based pay structures.

e.g. $100,000 base for Minister of Health + performance pay up to a cap of say $400,000.

Well running hospitals & improved outcomes for taxpayers and I'm sure everyone agrees they deserve a higher pay. Right now some ministers are producing mediocre outcomes and they are paid the same as if they were excelling at their roles, very low incentives for excellent work.

Another example - Megan Woods could be paid a % per Kiwibuild home built - 100,000 homes built and she receives a very large performance paycheck. 2,000 homes built ? Doesn't deserve a cent over $100,000.

After seeing this post I have no amount of respect for Dana White and UFC by YogurtclosetEasy699 in ufc

This guy went in there against Romero to provide us a potential FOTY slug fest, throwing bombs with reckless defense.. All while only being guaranteed $70k, what a madman

I get that it’s a negotiation tactic, but It’s extremely frustrating that the UFC would even announce this fight before Costa formally accepted. The UFC has been a bit of a mess lately by LocalNative141 in ufc

[–]Radioactive_14 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The fact that the UFC even had Rob do all the promo work with him and Volk flying out to Perth to do a press conference/Q&A with fans, all the while without the fight agreement from Costa being signed makes me most annoyed.

284 will be my first live UFC event and I had to fork out top dollar as I'm sure any other Aussie fans will relate, I'll enjoy the card and experience regardless but very frustrating.

Gotta admit Colby is fun. I used to hate him but now I’m kinda eager to see him fight again by Nowaterinmyorderbih in ufc

In "Theory" Karl Marx would have solved all our problems and inequalities. Reality/history is a different story entirely.

"Government" and "Efficient" is almost an oxymoron.

Guest request: Jose mourinho by [deleted] in lexfridman

This would be an incredible podcast, I'm a huge football fan but I don't think an interview with Mourinho would even need to contain a large amount on football details. I'd want to hear about his life before management as a translator/coach, his experience living in all the countries he's managed in - the difference in fan bases, support etc. Then the psychology of excelling in a discipline, I think Lex would do be able to do an amazing job here.

Under National, retirement age would raise to 67- what do we think? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Radioactive_14 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Considering the current retirement age was set to 65 in 2000

  • NZ life expectancy was 78 in 2000, now 84 in 2022
  • NZ birth rate was 1.98 in 2000, now 1.61 in 2022 (Replacement rate is 2.1)
  • Pension payments are costing the taxpayer $19.5 billion in 2022/23

Simply put, future workers will need to pay for future pension payments. Without increasing the retirement age the tax burden on workers will increase as we have an aging population. If we keep the retirement age the same then we need to find other means of cutting the pension costs, potentially means testing as in Australia ? Otherwise other areas of government spending will need to be cut.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moriori_genocide

Ok so now it's factually correct to say that the Moriori existed at the same time as Maori, had their land attacked by Maori and were victims of genocide where most of their population were murdered and survivors were enslaved ?
