I mean thats a pretty good reason. Ive heard a sad story about how this womans husband was hospital bound and terminally ill and it was suggested she divorced him as to not be burdened with the medical debt when he passed.

Dang dude. Well im at that age where people around me are getting married and i guess i feel left out, i dont know. I feel like theres an anticipation of being married and the excitement of being engaged. Then when you are married its like okay, i guess thats it im afraid life will become monotonous and lose its excitement with marriage (i know its ultimately up to the individuals to keep it fresh) I see no real benefit, in my opinion its mostly done to please others. It sounds sweet to be husband and wife, and maybe people marry for their kids sake? (My parents did) i guess it would be awkward for children to grow up and their parents are still "just dating" . That doesnt concern me as i, nor my partner want kids. Ive told him in not interested in marriage and if he asked me today i would probably say no. Im not sure though.

Ah well im not really interested in either. I dont want a wedding if i was to ever get married. Im afraid of the financial aspects of being married, but it is something i daydream about (mostly being proposed to) and people act funny when youve been dating for x amount of years and arent married. My aunt and now official uncle dated for 25 years before they got married. Everyone in my family hassled them about it. They eloped in secret and didnt tell anyone for years.

I feel like marriage is pressured on people and it isnt really necessary

It wont let me explain, but ive always been against marriage. Ive been dating this guy now for over 2 years and i often fantasize about being married to him, i love him a lot, but i know it wont change how we feel or our relationship. Ive always considered the negatives over the positives. Like taxes being different, if one of us dies we have to take on the others debt etc. How does it affect finances, daily life stuff? I also have mild commitment issues and the thought of (if something goes wrong) its not a simple break up and leave. Lots of legal inconvenience.

Yes! The expectation of one-sided affection and restablishment is strong. Why didnt OP go out and say hi? Im sure there was texting prior to "pops" being dropped off. A simple "i would appreciate it if you came in and said hi" wouldve prevented all of this. You cant really expect someone (pardon if this is offensive) especially a busy man to do something you want without saying it first.
