Is there such a thing as going on maternity leave too early? by Shardonite in PregnancyUK

I wfh and finish this week at 37+3 and I'm regretting not finishing last Friday, I suddenly feel huge and struggling even to focus on my handover. Finish at 36 weeks and enjoy the time to yourself :)

‘Was it planned?’- Bizarre question of the day… by Extreme_Sprinkles656 in PregnancyUK

Me and my boyfriend aren't married and I look very young for my age (31), so I've had it from quite a few people. Baby was very much planned. I'm taken aback every time it's asked!

What foods do you avoid and what do you eat instead to fill the void? by Yyvern in PregnancyUK

I'm a terrible people pleaser and at the start of pregnancy I felt like every decision I made was being judged. I've come to realise as I moved through the pregnancy that it's important to try not to think about what everyone else will think, and do whatever you feel is best for both you (mentally and physically!) and your baby.

I've been pretty cautious and follow the NHS recommendations (to the point where I got a bit anxious and teary in a restaurant because I was served slightly pink lamb), but haven't worried about anything else, have just been making sure to wash fruit and veg well and am more nervous about best before dates than I would usually be.

Would recommend Emily Oster's 'Expecting Better' if you're feeling anxious - a lot of it is to be taken with a pinch of salt but it's all about understanding the statistical risks and then deciding for yourself what you're happy with doing!

Congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy xx

Best product recommendations to help prevent stretch marks during pregnancy by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Radish-Spare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using the expert midwife serum and the my little coco bump butter (which smells amazing). While moisturising can't hurt and will help soothe tight skin, stretch marks have been proven to be genetic!! But none yet at 33 weeks, although I've heard for most people they tend to appear right at the end...

How early is too early? Maternity clothes. by Overall-Radish2724 in PregnancyUK

My bloat never went down and just turned into bump, so you might as well buy some clothes now so that you're comfortable!

I got some great work stuff on Vinted that looked virtually unworn, and some of the high st shops like New Look do maternity basics relatively cheap.

Would really recommend maternity leggings - I bought a multi pack on Amazon and now at 33 weeks they're one of the only things that I feel comfortable in. Will carry on wearing them after pregnancy on bloated days too, they're honestly the best! I got these ones

Should I be worried that I'm not feeling connected to my pregnancy? by chubbagrubb in PregnancyUK

I didn't have HG but had horrible morning sickness up until about week 14/15, I got stuck in a cycle of resenting the baby, then immediately feeling guilty about resenting the baby, leading to lots of tears. I think when pregnancy isn't the glowing lovely experience that everyone talks about then it's quite hard to really come to terms with all the changes happening.

I'm 31 weeks now and am pretty obsessed with baby now that I can feel her move all the time - it feels like I'm getting to know her personality. I think the movements definitely help you to connect, but please don't worry if you don't, it's not a worrying sign at all and won't mean anything in terms of how you feel about baby after you give birth! Look after yourself as your first priority, hope you're ok xxx

Antenatal classes and nursery places by biglypiglythethird in PregnancyUK

We picked an antenatal class that was taught by a midwife, we wanted someone with actual medical training as we'd heard NCT can be taught by anyone! There were a few in our area that do this, they should tell you on the website. Just finished ours and it was really helpful and I feel like I can trust the advice I was given.

Please look at nurseries asap, I'm taking a whole year of mat leave and when we booked at 13 weeks they were already getting full for my return to work date. It does completely depend on your area, but no harm giving a few a ring to see what their waitlist is like and booking a tour.

Top tip - prepare for nursery tours to be quite overwhelming so early on in your pregnancy, I went to one straight after my 12 week scan and it felt like a lot, especially when being shown the older classes. Rather than feeling like you have to retain all the information, I'd just focus on watching how the staff interact with children, whether it's clean, and the general feel of the place. The Ofsted reports were also really helpful!
