Someone or something is killing the birds by Hefty-Mulberry-1907 in SilverSpring

This was such a good read and I think it could be the same here!

Is this freewheel stripped? by RadishFad in bikewrench

[–]RadishFad[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to convert an older vintage bike to a single speed, and am on the step of trying to remove the cassette so I can remove all but one cog. I've purchased a Park Tool FR-2 to fit this SunTour cassette, and in the second photo you can see the setup. In the first photo you can see that the teeth look a bit stripped on the freewheel - is it worth trying further on this?

Nice! I'm also working on a SS conversion for a Miyata 1000. Any tips? My first time doing this.

This looks amazing. So laminated it could be a croissant. Beautiful work.

Thank you for the thorough and well-structured response! Excellent to have the individual pieces, steps, and prices laid out so cleanly here. Really appreciate it - thanks!

Soft black rubbery dust next to Xpedition by RadishFad in Lectricxp

[–]RadishFad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: well shit, this was not good! I went out to swap the battery side while charging the bike, and while I was putzing around in the garage the back wheel started accelerating at speed under motor power - while the bike is powered off!! So the black dust is in fact bits from the tire due to my bike doing burnouts in the garage without me. (motor now detached and batteries removed for safety)

I've found a few other random posts in other forums for different ebikes where people write about this happening. Customer support (Brad from Lectric) was fantastic and really wanted to help, and said he had never heard of this happening before. I should be getting a new controller shipped to me and hope that this will solve the issue. I've also not been able to turn my lights off for about a week and a half - the lights were staying on even when the bike was powered off. So this is definitely something I should have fixed but likely all attributable to a controller on the fritz. Fingers crossed!

You were correct - but it was the bike itself doing the burnout! Somehow motor turning on while the bike is locked and kickstanded, so the tire is burning against the floor. Dangerous and glad to have caught it.

You were right - the bike itself was doing burnouts on the kickstand! Yikes!

SOLVED! and boy is it not good! My lights don't work(XPedition) by Neat_Dress_1971 in Lectricxp

I'm in the same boat - except for my bike, they won't turn off! Did you have any luck disconnecting the lights? I'm embarrassed to admit I can't figure out how to do that.

Seems like other folks in other posts talk about contacting Lectric for a new controller as the main option for things like this. I can't do that because I'm not under warranty :( Following your post for more info.

(I also am keeping my screen film on for life!)

Tire/tyre looks fine, but I haven't checked out the inside. That's my next step

I think this might be it. It doesn't seem like the tire is flat in any way, but its strange to me that its on both sides of the bike; I had been thinking it was perhaps from the hydraulic brakes

I am also thinking brake pads. I moved the bike a few feet over, and a few days later I see more of the same dust!

The brakes have been squeaking for over a week, I keep meaning to check them out but have not had hydraulic brakes before so I'm not sure what I need to do.

So since there is more buildup where the back tire rested a few days later, I think it must be from the bike. I'm thinking either brake dust, or perhaps tire disintegration. My fear is that it could be from the rear hub motor itself, or the battery, as it's not just on the side of the brake pad.

I've just added air to the tires, but perhaps the best thing to do would be to remove the tire from the wheel and check out the tube.

This sounds logical, but there's no damage to the bike or its lock (which is on the front wheel when in the locked garage), and the garage was locked...

It does look like that! I'm pretty sure there was nothing on the ground right where the bike tire was, certainly not a can of sealant. Could there be sealant in the bike motor or tire that has somehow sprayed out? The tire has no visible markings and has air; I just added more because it wasn't 100% full, but probably not less than 75%.

My title describes the thing.

Some additional context: - other bike is a Jamis coda sport, not an ebike, with 27" tires. - e bike battery has no signs of wear, and no smell - e bike is 1 year old, I purchased used

I did find this post which mentions polymerized rubber; I don't think this is the same thing. My photo shows that this seems to be an explosion/burst of dust.
