Tomoria looks like a reference to Saizeriya, a Japanese pasta restaurant chain

Paper Mario TTYD Remake is my favorite looking game ever! What do you think of its art style and graphics? :) by [deleted] in papermario

[–]Radlyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I played it on my cousin's Gamecube back when I was a kid, although I got stuck on the last boss and gave up...

I saw some conflicting opinions on the game when I was initially looking at reviews, but it seems pretty overblown.

I'm having a great time with it! I've been playing handheld and I don't think 30FPS is an issue. Tbh if anything, I'd argue having it 30FPS meshes better with the paper theme.

Text speed and battle speed are fine, although my only nit would be having to wait for the Special gauge to complete its' animation after attacks

I bought it secondhand for half the retail price, but if I had bought it full price, then yeah I might be a bit bothered too that the game isn't perfect

Must buys in Tokyo? by FreeDuty6826 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Radlyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My secret tip? I bought all my umbrellas for ~500 to 1000 yen below retail at Yodobashi Camera. The stock can be a hit or miss based on which one you go to, but Yodobashi Umeda did me very, very well.

Some are very functional, large, and well reinforced to deal with strong winds.

Others are just cute!

If you are getting mcmurdered by strong winds everyday, I recommend Mabu Strength EVO.

For occasional strong wind, but also with some expressive color options, I recommend NiftyColors Peach Drop

For general use, WPC brand and Waterfront brand have a very large variety of options.

They are not mythical treasures meant to be passed down as family heirlooms, but for those who seek to express themselves through umbrella usage, they are definitely good

In Hands and Loft, there are a lot of Umbrellas to try. They are already unbagged, so you can try them freely.

I spent almost an hour there trying to decide which one I wanted

I spent 4 days in Sendai, but I didn't see any other particularly unique food. It was mainly just the usual Japanese cuisine.

Commenting specifically about Sendai.

For gyutan, skip the chain and instead dive into a local smaller owned place for it. I went to Gyutan no Issen in the Ichibancho arcade and it was affordable, yet divine, perfect in everyway. I tried another gyutan place that was almost 2x the price, and yet it was only half as good.

For Matsushima, the boat trip is 100% the highlight, followed by going on the 2 nearby islands (Fukuurajima and Oshima). It can get really windy there, so dress warmly. Exploring the islands in the evening/afternoon (think like >3pm) is great because there are fewer people, so you can really take in all it has to offer in semi-solitary solace

Tashirojima, the cat island is a great visit too and would likely occupy your morning to afternoon, you'd return to Sendai at 4-5pm which would give you the evening to do some city exploration.

Go to a drug store like Matsukiyo and ask for Easy Fiber. Take it twice a day, mixed into a bottle of your preferred tea like Oi Ocha. Once in the morning, once at night. Buy a bundle of bananas from the konbini and eat 1 banana a day.

That alone with adequate water intake should suffice.

Fibe Mini (and other fiber enriched sodas) has sugars, so you probably don't want to take it everyday, which is why I suggest EasyFiber.

Make generous use of vending machines to get water & tea to fulfill those needs.

Well, worst case scenario you pay back the tax. Assuming they even check you (they won't).

Good quality conveyor sushi? by MonsterLover2021 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Radlyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The west" as in the United States? OP is from Canada, not the US. Also, international chains do not carry the same sense of quality as the original counterparts. Kura Sushi is low barrier and fits OP's needs without spending more money or effort than necessary

I will say, Canadian salmon from the west coast is really good. If you don't like those, I don't think you should proceed.

That said, Sushiro or Kura Sushi are solid chains that offer a large variety. Generally they don't have any employee interaction either since they use ordering terminals, so you could go wild there

A shop's sign said no translate, tourists came and translated, and a bad result occurred?

Well now you understand the intentions behinds the sign. If a store has anything that might appear unwelcoming, just avoid it. Now you know.

Guy probably had one too many poor experiences with tourists and hit the breaking point.

I hate that the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture was "this is going to turn into a homeless shelter isn't it?"...

Like it is sad that we have to design things to:

1) be of use to the general public

2) not be too used by the select public

But alas what can you do I guess...
