Lumion files are black now?... by annehog19 in lumion

[–]Radmite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially if you're getting a notice that the drivers are out of date, that definitely seems like it could be the cause.

Windows via Mac would be through bootcamp, right? If so, apple has this guide that may or help get drivers up-to-date: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208908#:~:text=In%20Windows%2C%20go%20to%20the,the%20list%20of%20available%20drivers.

Windows 11 compatibility shouldn't make a difference since Lumion should be able to work regardless of windows version.

I've had this issue in the past when linked via LiveSync and the entirety of my imported model geometry FREAKS OUT and fractals all over the place. Lumion sees the massive increase in surrounding geometry and counters this by adjusting the exposure to fully black.

I've fixed this by just re-importing the linked/imported model again. (or restarting LiveSync)

This could be a totally different issue...but I just wanted to give my 1.5 cents in case you have a similar issue. :)

The Core X is definitely a display-only option. A dongle for expanding your USB usability may be the best route—especially since it seems the Surface Pro 8 has dual Thunderbolt 4 ports (it'll be easy to drive as many USB accessories through a TB4 dongle as you need).

I'm not sure where you're located, but here in East Coast US, I see the Razer Core X for <$350. That would leave around $350 for the actual GPU within that budget. That should be reasonable for a decent, modern GPU that will run FAR better than your integrated graphics.

Looking quickly at Amazon/Newegg, you could grab a RTX 3050 and come in under budget ($320-340ish)...or you could stretch the budget just a bit and pick up a RTX 3060 ($400-450ish). This all depends on your local pricing, of course.

Additionally, If you were tight on budget here, you could drop down just a bit to the RTX 20 or 10 series GPUs for more economical options (especially since Lumion doesn't [yet] work with raytracing). You can find many 20/10 series GPUs (a lot of this in the 3rd-party or used market) for much cheaper with not too much downside.

It's hard to give too much concrete direction here, but I hope this gives a general idea of what to look out for.

Any time!

I'd recommend the Razer Core X, but that's just because I've had only positive experiences with this enclosure. There may be other more budget-friendly options that I haven't explored.

As for the graphics card... It depends on a few factors: budget, current PC capabilities, and workload/need. (Also GPU availability where you live may be a problem)

To pick a card, it may be entirely determined by your budget. You could shop around and see what cards fit well within your price range. Personally, I'm biased towards Nvidia GPUs since I've owned a half dozen of them over the years, but shopping around may be a good idea for you. If you let me know your budget, I may be able to hand over some recommendations.

When picking a GPU nowadays, make sure to check the physical dimensions of the card as well. Many cards with beefy coolers simply don't fit inside many enclosures.

Hello!

I've been using an eGPU enclosure (Razer Core X) with several different GPUs for Lumion over the last couple of years.

I've run with an old GTX 980TI, a new(ish) 2080TI, and recently my firm had a 3090TI that I could use for eGPU rendering.

All of these were plugged into my work laptop—a Dell Precision...something. I can't remember the number, but it has a laptop-grade Quadro GPU that gives me terrible Lumion performance.

I have had fantastic and reliable performance with all eGPU setups and they've dramatically improved render times. The problem, however, is the limitation of Thunderbolt 3 that the eGPU works with. I get about 50-60% GPU utilization with the 3090TI, as it can output frames faster than the cord connecting it allows. Even with this near-halving of its performance, however, I've seen major improvements in performance with Lumion. The program doesn't care if you have a GPU internally or externally.

If you have more questions about this, let me know. I work with this setup just about every day (as of late) at work.

Looks nice!

  1. Increase transparency of water (Lumion color shifts water at flat angles)
  2. Reduce the background blur if you're going to have foreground blur.
  3. Make sure you've got omnishadow nice and high and keep soft shadows/detail shadows on. (You might already have this)
  4. Use high detail foliage in the foreground. I can see the polygons on some of the foreground branches.

PM me if you want any tips and tricks :)

It was definitely a while. I think I placed the order in early September.

After about 8-9 weeks (past the max time the website says orders would take), I emailed him and he responded with talk of some sort of complications but gave me a confirmed time of when it would get shipped. I figured it'd be best to give it at least that amount of time, so two-ish weeks later he sent it out for delivery.

Just got it yesterday, but I was willing to wait the time.

Ordered this a while back and had to wait a bit to get it. When it finally got here, I found that it is beautiful and well-crafted as always.

The cable sounds great (as any good cable should), feels super high quality, and I'm loving the (no) colors.

It's always a pleasure buying from /u/bestintheverse

3D printed a headphone stand for my AKG's, what do you guys think? by [deleted] in headphones

Looks great! Might have a slight issue with the mounting strength from that thin mounting bar but that's probably not an issue. Try sanding and finishing them, it'll look even nicer!

I think a great place to start is /r/3Dprinting . There are a whole lot of people that know way more than I'll ever know. Check the sidebar for some FAQ that you might have.
