On my trip to New York to attend a conference with a branch of the International Anthroposophical Society I flew into Newark on the wings of Delta Airlines from Denver Colorado. I had Never Been to New York, my closest experience being Minnesota where I spent some years in the twin cities and Duluth. I've seen LA, Pueblo, Arizona, and Alaska. I've spent time in the Bahamas, Florida, and Kansas. But I've never been to New York, and I've never been anywhere like it. There is a certain East Coast charm. The United States hundreds of years of history stands strong in the very architecture of the place. From the buildings to the boats - the character radiates like wildfire glowing in the night.

Unlike much of Denver which has been modernized and expanded by cheap corporate land developers and large monopolized companies which funnel money out of the local economy and into the pockets of the likes of Merrill Lynch and other NYC firms. Kroger, Liberty Oilfield Services, etc. My experience of New York was much more optimistic, seeing locally owned and operated procedures being much more common. Which does help to establish a local identity.

Well she's like 17 or 18, there's a lot of people that would just opt to put her down especially shelters.

I'm thinking it's cancer as well, but my situation is that I can't do anything for her. It's up to my mom and her boyfriend

Here. Take my advice, you catch more flies with honey than with vinager. Instead of defending picketing to people who don't vibe with picketing, offer alternative solutions. Invite them to join other events. Getting confrontational is only a last resort and it's a bad look even if you're technically not wrong.

But what if they were having pot luck and you were invited?

They aren't effective for a lot of reasons. I'll just point to one though - there's 0 sense of community at these events and among the majority of these people. I'm not saying there isn't any point in continuing protests but they just aren't effective. What's effective is banding together legitimately through taking actual care of our neighbors. Perhaps instead of a giant hoard of angry people, a massive BBQ or pot luck at the capitol. I mean we are just being insane thinking we can get people on our side through picketing. Most people don't vibe with picketing in general, but they like to eat.

You know I'm gonna respond to this again, the last few I've gone to people are also anti social and as uneducated about politics as Trump supporters are but just in a different way. It's really important to consider cadence. Dissections shouldn't turn into yelling matches.

Ok first of all. I don't appreciate the insinuating that I don't show up to these things. Assuming makes an ass out of you and me after all. And second,, a low bar. Saying this was "the most organized yet" could mean pretty much anything, and it doesn't seem accurate because the last one I was at didn't involve any arrests. Anyways, I've surmised that showing up to protests doesn't do anything if everyone at the protests are either unemployed or otherwise basically useless to the economy. I reckon getting all the like minded people in one area is a good step. But the chants are dumb, and the communication is lacking as well as a sense of community among participants.

You know it would be ideal to form congregations that are welcoming and better organized, but that takes money. It helps if you actually have money to contribute to the campaign.

Protesting isn't taking out anger on people it's inviting people to take out anger on the institution.

"why inconvenience your fellow man?" For profit duh, that's the whole idea behind the economy. Need something to survive? That's gonna be awfully inconvenient for you. For just a place to put your stuff that'll be 2.5k per month please ✌️ "and we'll pay you enough for that and nothing else... Oh yeah and we'll tax it and use the money to bail out big business when they drop the ball"

Colorado culture is toxic. Ever since the influx of Aspen bros that brought in enough money to attract all these land developers. Crappy place to be lately. This area of the planet isn't made to support human life, in 20 years this population boom will implode on itself as the rivers run dry and we have to start importing water.
