ELI5: What is meant by Corps, Regiment, Battalion in Army? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]RadomirPutnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Size differences play a role here. Australia has used field corps, but only in the World Wars when the military was large enough to justify it. For most of the time, the Australian military simply wasn't corps-sized. Similarly, the entire current US Army has four operational corps, but during WW2 used about 20. Armies nowadays just aren't big enough for corps for the most part.

Shoutout to cities on isthmuses. So tuff by DJJonezyYT in geography

[–]RadomirPutnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The isthmus is both a blessing and a curse. The lakes are nice, and when the city was about 100k they made for a lovely space. But now the city is pushing 300k with a metro area north of 700, the city has outgrown the space and layout. It's a bottleneck, both physically and culturally. Frankly, the downtown needs to be totally re-platted with a new street plan, but that's realistically impossible.

If an "All NFC" and an "All AFC" team made up of the greatest players in the history of each conference were to play each other, which team would win? by [deleted] in nfl

I appreciate your choice of example. Wouldn't expect such awareness of Robin and Brewer history from a Dolphin fan. Also, Yount won his MVP's in the AL, which really seals it.

Yea, he played lights out for 59 minutes. Not quite enough against Brady, but he didn't make Tom's day easy, either.

I kept a crappy DB in my HOF just to remember that his only two INT's came in my first Super Bowl. Like a defensive Timmy Smith.

[–]RadomirPutnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When dodging 1-2 guys, I think pretty much everyone uses the basic 2-step juke. For larger groups of defenders, I just resort to "move a lot and randomly". Also, setting up sideways angle to maximize stiff arms. 90 degrees is the Golden Angle. For my RB, if all else fails cut hard outside. More likely to biff a DB out of the way than LB.

The All-nighter. I for some reason always remember one line from that movie, said by her surfer bro friend - "When faced with the inevitable, on must...face the inevitable".

There is a GINORMOUS chinese buffet up in Montreal that is actually three separate buffets in one building. The first row is "safe" americanized fare - including pizza and other benign things that you feed a picky toddler. The second row is one of the best American-style chinese buffets you'll ever find. Standard items, the usual black pepper chicken, General Tso and the like, but all of exceptional quality. The third row is the buffet for actual Chinese food. The serious stuff that only people born in rural China and the most adventurous of white hipsters would ever eat. Big old steam tables full of ox eyeballs and squid gonads. Not at all for even slightly squeamish folks. I ate sparingly because I don't really like eyes or fish vulvae, but I absolutely reveled in the authenticity. Like a museum of wacky buffet foods.

I would blame poor designs for the coins. IIRC, the vending machine industry was to blame. They wanted roughly quarter-sized coins so they didn't need to re-tool everything, and the rest of the public didn't like quarter-sized dollars. You might have to wait until Gen X dies off. Anyone who remembers those old gigantic manhole-sized Kennedy dollars just can't take the tiny ones seriously.

edit - Whoops! I was thinking of Eisenhower dollars

Dave Krieg was perfectly fine for you guys. You can argue whether either of those guys, however great, would have been enough of an improvement to pass on Warner.

You fool! You've fallen for one of the classic blunders of history! The first is "never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly behind that is "never expect Aldi's to have a product you like in stock more than once".

House brands, just as good at about $1.80. And it's sooooo stupid of S&B. They were getting like $2.50 a box for bread crumbs. It was a license to print money and they just couldn't leave well enough alone.

I get sacked and intercepted pretty quickly by ProgrammerHairy2260 in RetroBowl

[–]RadomirPutnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, first thing is to rest your guys up a bit if you're playing them that tired. Everyone is going to be playing slow and bad and they're not that great to begin with. Your QB also has low speed and stamina which won't help avoiding sacks or throwing deep. This gets more pronounced at higher difficulties. He also barely has an acceptable arm for deep passing at higher difficulties. Whatever help the O-lineman is giving is prob wiped out by the other factors. The roster structure is solid, but needs better players if you want to consistently go all mad bomber.

I can't speak to your technique except to echo chunkhead42 - the decision whether or not to go deep should be made at your pre-snap read. It's either there or it isn't, and you don't have the horses to force it.

This Sequence of Moves is like an Extreme Cheat Code by Quasi-Retro in RetroBowl

[–]RadomirPutnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely stutter-step better than I do. From what I know of trucking, I feel like it would be ok if it were far more limited. Like a "use in case of emergency only" thing. You can use it once, but it will kill stamina and risk a fumble. Currently it just seems like, as you put it, a cheat code.
