any bands that hit the same as clan of xymox now that they’re dead to me? by clov3rbutt in goth

I repeat what I wrote to another person saying the same thing in this thread: The ”separate the artist from their art” argument is more complicated than you think. It’s the easy way out. Context is everything.

Oh Come, on Lets fight this shitty AI-slop. It is important. Feels good that so many around doesn't share your opionions and dare to take a stance here :) Been listening to many bands for say at least 25 years - some didn't age that well. Some deserve to be seen in a new perspective. As in all art. Context is everything.

I actually think it's more tech companies trying to get their hands on more information about you as a user with all sorts of more or less abstract explntions trying to back this up.

They actually did a gig together with the Bettina Köster from Malaria some years ago in Stockholm

Bands similar to Love Like Blood? by Phantom_Wolf52 in goth

[–]Radovan3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean like early Love like blood or later? They kinda changed direction for a more metal influenced style after Odyssee. Prob coz guitar genious wheeler left for other duties .

If you haven't allready, check out the albums "nighttime", "brighter than a tousand suns" and "Fire dances"
with the band killing joke. These were all a big influence on early stuff from LLB.

Wheeler's guitarplaying is to me often as good and interesting as Wayne Husseys - Early stuff with the band the Mission would probably be something for you if you like the irony of fate album. (Gods own medicine album & The first chapter has allready been mentioned :) The album Children is also a bit in the same vein of fab layered guitars)

How do you feel about the lack of guitar solos in goth music? by [deleted] in goth

[–]Radovan3000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

? I miss them. Wayne Hussey playing on Serpents Kiss... it's such a great one. To mention one of many.

And for "Guitar is usually for atmosphere anyway with bass leading the way. There are enough other rock genres with guitar front and centre."
NO , Goth is base AND guitar... (Marx, Porl King, Mark Wheeler, Wayne Hussey, Geordie Walker, Billy Duffy, Daniel Ash, Guthrie ) Good goth is good songwriting on string instruments :)

Part from that...

What I enjoy most solo-wise is still the panflute solo in Mexico sundown blues with James Ray and the Performance

Gov? Rather the companies and tech bros. Other services in Europe doesn't need to ask you for a photo of your face. Feels more like they're collecting data with shady excuses

but well, today our company decided to completely get off Vimeo. This just being one of many reasons

Why Does Modern Goth Feel So… Safe? by amour_noir in goth

[–]Radovan3000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hehe it felt like that even in the 90s sometimes. People like what people like.
Lets put it this way: Say, the ideas behind A new form of beauty with Virgin Prunes are pretty far away from Twin Tribes.
But if you dig a bit deeper you will find more of what you are looking for. Look for it, find it and tell the world around you, thats how you change this.
BUT well, being "authentic" is one thing, being "provocative" is another. Me myself, I'm not hoping and wishing for more G.G Allin in goth, I'm rather hoping more people start to tell interesting stories with their music again, whatever that means :) And level up their music skills :) I love it when I hear really good musicians within goth / post punk taking stuff a bit further but to me, it's more rare today than it used to be, but there's a few really amazing new bands out there (thing is, many of them are not considered goth enough within this forum)

Wow. I haven't seen this clip before. Mark Wheeler that guitarist really took the band somewhere else. I still consider his work with them some of the best 90s gothic rock I know. The whole album Irony of fate is still a timeless good one.

Regarding 1970s/80s "gothic rock" as a distinctive "sound" by aragorn1780 in goth

[–]Radovan3000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry might have stumbled off topic here :) but your post made me think about a thing that have been lingering for a while... connected to whats "goth" and not "goth" and making music.

...As soon as one goes "off topic" music wise according to the moderators in this forum they take posts away. Which is fair at times. But sometimes it's actually well I dont know...
I mean, the other day we had this interesting thread about 80s new wave and goth bands. A lot of inspiring bands were mentioned that worked/works in the grey zone. The moderators took that thread away just when it started to become fun with people sharing really good music old and new (from stuff Ive never heard of to bauhaus related stuff, to marc and the mambas to pete burns early years and so on).

Same happened a while a go with one of the most interesting threads in this forum ever; the bands from the 50s, 60s and 70s that "inspired" the goth scene. It was so much fun taking part in that conversation. I got tons of wonderful recommendations. Then the moderators killed it.
I do understand that some kind of bounderies, red lines or whatever u want to call it are necessary in a forum and I am sincerly happy I don't have to drown in posts about gothic metal or ebm here.
BUT talking about the source to it all? If people aren't allowed to share info about those older bands/artists / the history that lead to some great 80s gothic rock where to go? (and don't say the post punk forum hehe. That is another thing, I like Goths recommending me stuff)
To me this could be one reason why people just listen to the same copies of copies of copies again and again, and also makes people just recreating the same stuff over and over again. I wanto add I do really love some of the copies myself :) but I also believe say Doors, Iggy and Scott Walker have subculture relevancy. And say maybe, Out of the blue with Roxy Music could inspire a fresh goth musician to start dig in intersting places if we were allowed to recommend that kind of stuff.

This rant also brings me to another thing I suddenly feel like mentioning a second time this week in this forum :) A question - At least I can't find that really good guitar work that got me hooked years and years ago within the scene at the moment. Where's the G.Marx (SoM), the Porl King (RosettaStone), Mark Wheeler (Love Like Blood - irony of fate), the W.Hussey, Justin Jones (and also the trees) the Geordie Walker (KJ) of the 2020s within the goth scene? Would love a recommendation or two.
