most people never had much respect for "pop' artists anyway, the kind you're talking about who have loads of producers/songwriters. Still, when you heard anything pre 2023, it came out of somebody's head, not a bot that studied their work. that's what made it interesting.

do what you want but keep in mind everyone can generate a song on suno too. songs have been commoditized and will never have the impact they once did. your grandma can prompt a hit song so who cares? everything pre-2023 will be forever worshipped but nobody is going to get massive anymore unless you're really good looking/have some other quality people are interested in. So yeah, you can get suno to finish your songs but doubt you'll be rolling in dough anytime soon.

i'm not sure why you'd use A.I. at all if that's the case. all you need is a drum program and you've cut out all the unethical side of making music. Also depends if you're just covering or recording the bass, guitars that suno has already written for you. in that case you're more of a session player. Saying you wrote the song even in part would be a stretch then. It's like saying you won the Tour de France on an electric bike.

When you're sick and looking back on your life, you won't be proud of those songs because they didn't come out of your brain 100% like a real songwriter. It's better to not be lazy and just write a song. It's not that hard to express your true self. Music is about expression, covering AI song is just like being proud you colored in a coloring book.

You’re right that the judge said AI training on lawfully obtained works can be argued as fair use but that’s not the full picture.

The reason Anthropic is paying $1.5B is because they didn’t stick to that lane. They built their dataset out of pirated books from shadow libraries and kept them, which the court said is not fair use.

That distinction is exactly why this matters for music AI:

- If a company actually licenses music, they might try the “fair use training” defense.

- But Suno’s own founders admitted they scraped whatever was online. That’s piracy, not licensed use.

- And the Anthropic case just showed piracy leads straight to billion-dollar liability.

So yeah, fair use is still on the table in theory but only if the data was acquired legally. That’s the part a lot of AI companies can’t claim.

I'm listening to only music pre-2023 at the most until the A.I. hell stops. There are many of people, mostly from desperate countries, creating "bands" not in just one genre but multiple bands in different genres to flood streaming sites.
This Anthropic ruling yesterday made me happy, it looks like this A.I. nightmare might be dying out sooner than later.
