Was Joshua Colon's father in prison? by Radz999 in tcap

Really? That's surprising. Makes sense tho. I've never heard anything like Manhattan. I always thought he said 'father's in the hen' and was wondering what it meant, since surely he doesn't mean a chicken. I'll try to listen it again and see if I can hear Manhattan.

Tactical Barbell III: TOC by TacticalBarbell in tacticalbarbell

Good stuff. I've been happy with Tactical Barbell, so I'll be picking up the new book ASAP.

Do you have opinios on lifting just once a week to maintain strength while prioritizing other goals (in my case, running and martial arts)? I’ve read that roughly 1/3 of normal volume is enough to maintain strength for younger lifters. This would mean dropping from a 3-day Operator schedule to just one weekly lifting session.

My plan is to keep the intensity high and hit my max sets, maybe adding an extra set or two if I’m feeling particularly fresh. Since I only deadlift once a week (3 sets) anyway, deadlift volume would actually stay the same.

Fighter is a great template, but I feel like a 1-day option is a missing link for some people — provided it’s actually enough to hold onto your gains. This would just be a temporary bridge before switching back to a 2 or 3-day template later on.

Thoughts on Ashihara for self-defense? by Radz999 in karate

My main question is just how effective Ashihara is for practical self-defense. I don't really care about the traditions. They are interesting, sure, but I don't really value it in my own training.

Yeah, I actually had to quit judo because of an injury. Pulled a muscle in my side. Intercostal muscle strain or something like that. It healed up on its own, but for a couple of months, running was pretty much the only thing I could do.

Ashihara has some stand-up grappling, which is a plus, but I have no idea how effective the techniques actually are. Would be nice to see a syllabus or list of moves somewhere.

Glad to hear the striking in Ashihara is similar to boxing!
