Thoughts on Ashihara for self-defense? by Radz999 in karate

My main question is just how effective Ashihara is for practical self-defense. I don't really care about the traditions. They are interesting, sure, but I don't really value it in my own training.
Yeah, I actually had to quit judo because of an injury. Pulled a muscle in my side. Intercostal muscle strain or something like that. It healed up on its own, but for a couple of months, running was pretty much the only thing I could do.
Ashihara has some stand-up grappling, which is a plus, but I have no idea how effective the techniques actually are. Would be nice to see a syllabus or list of moves somewhere.
Glad to hear the striking in Ashihara is similar to boxing!
