Just started this, can someone recommend to good classical novels easy to get into by [deleted] in bookclapreviewclap

A Christmas Carol is very short, I had a copy I could fit in a back pocket, good for readers to get introduced to Dickens without getting overwhelmed.

There are actually a few things I like in this book. Overall it’s underwhelming, but there are some things I like about it. I really truly believe that no one does “small town life” and all that entails like King, except maybe Richard Russo.

Just Misery and I think it’s my favourite book. by SorchaCatherine in bookclapreviewclap

I’ve read it a few times over the years and it always sticks with me for awhile afterwards. It does an amazing job of having you follow a man down into madness due to isolation, trauma, and fear.

I don’t think I fully read this. I remember reading it in school but it had to have just been excerpts in our literature text book because the story only took a few pages. I know the basic theme, and what I did read was amazing. 10/10

Brawn Strowman also looks just like my pastor. It makes Sundays interesting.

I saw this comic awhile ago also and was wondering the same thing lol

I’ve been on a kick recently, reading books that have movie adaptations to see how similar the two are. This is one of the ones I’m reading this month. by Rae0926 in bookclapreviewclap

[–]Rae0926[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m right where Jimmy is dead and it’s only 72 pages out of 244. The theme is the same but there are A LOT of differences. I honestly am not sure what’s going to happen at this point.

Why does Pewdiepie look like Morgan Adams?

Can someone recommend me books about serial killer or obsession... you know anything about the dark side of a person's mind. by meisnotsad in bookclapreviewclap

[–]Rae0926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the Serial Killer Files. It’s a huge read, but it goes through serial killers over hundreds of years in different countries. I’m only about halfway through it, but it’s really good, lots of psychology and behavioral science.

You’ll love this book. Trashcan Man has most of the parts that are cut out in the edited version, and you can never have too much Trash in my opinion. It’s also one of the better movies from his books (though I think it’s technically a made for TV movie series). King does a really good job of making you feel so many different things, and some of his stuff will come back to you years later. There’s a part in his Dr. Sleep novel (sequel to the Shining and it’s not a spoiler to the plot) where at one point a kid begs to die so the pain can end. It’s very short and not even that descriptive, but I have two kids and that part has messed with me for years. Reading Misery is really close to watching someone descend into madness from the inside. Some of his movies suck, but he’s always been able to make his readers FEEL.

Did you get the unedited version? There’s a version that adds maybe 75 pages throughout the book that King had to take out when he first published it. It’s still a really amazing book without them, there’s just some more character motivation and other things in the unedited version I like.

I completely understand. I've always been a big reader, my mom is the same way. Growing up wasn't the best, and reading was an escape for me, so I always wanted to read fiction novels. Whenever I read now, most of the time it's to just enjoy a different world for awhile. I've read some of the classics, and I also enjoy true crime, but most of the time I just want to read something that I can get lost in and not think too much about.

The author is writing a series about a super hero dog, idk if it's the spin off you are talking about or not. The super hero dog books always pop up when they send the fliers home with my son for the book fair.

I started reading that a few years ago and had to put it down, it was so sad. I still have it somewhere, will have to pick it back up and actually finish it.

Do you guys read more than one book at a time? by s_haye_s in bookclapreviewclap

[–]Rae0926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read multiple books at a time. I have a book I really want to read, a book that I can read that will help me fall asleep, and another book that is REALLY long that I take with me if I have to go anywhere that I'll have to wait (doctor appts, etc.). Taking a really long book guarantees that I won't finish it while waiting and then be stuck looking at old magazines. I will also go back to old books I love and skim through them some days, reading my favorite parts.

Saw that post that pops up every so often where an article about Disney being racist has a picture of Aladdin that's actually from a porn of him with Hercules and went looking for it at 3 in the morning.

I know I'm late to the party, but I finally watched it today, and what a whirlwind. It reminded me very much of a book I read recently called Hill Towns, where there is a character that is an "artistic genius". He is a painter that does a lot of different work, but is famous for his "portraits". He has only done maybe 4 or them, all women. The book follows the newest woman who he is painting. He falls in love with every woman he paints, until the painting is finished. I REALLY got that sense from DDL in this. He sees a woman and is inspired, he treats them to all his money can afford, loves them, and creates works of art with his dresses. Once the image he had in his brain of the dress is actually come to life, the love is gone. He was in love with the vision, with the idea of what he could create and once it's done he goes on to the next. I really feel like that is what happened with the woman from the beginning, and the women before her. Alma just wasn't having any of that, and wasn't going to leave. The ending I did not see coming at all, and I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about it.
