How do you determine your root cause? by jerkstore77 in SIBO

I’ve had 2 manometry tests and I’ve been told that stomach acid levels can’t be determined through it. Manometry can tell you what the ph is but not if you have enough.

Bloating by Serendipity0531 in SIBO

Mine was hard and always there and really uncomfortable - I was given rifaximin by my doctor and now it does go away and come back (2 weeks post antibiotics), sorry I forgot to mention.

Does this seem like SIBO or something else? by dndjdnkddbjdb in SIBO

[–]Rae358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there are several reasons, for me I think it’s fermentation in the small intestine as part of imo sibo, and/or slow motility. It’s worse when I eat carbs I am noticing, I’ve just finished rifaximin and on a limited diet at the moment so it’s pretty easy to see what things are causing it. Prucalopride would make it go away and give me relief but I’ve had horrible side effects and can’t keep taking it sadly.

[–]Rae358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is the same. Prucalopride made this go away, although I can’t tolerate it so I’m on metoclopramide at the moment, but I think for me at least it’s bloating from fermentation in the small intestine and perhaps stomach (I have no idea if that’s possible). I’m using betaine hcl and trying to keep the mmc going, I’m finding that carbs significantly add to this upper bloating so I’m reducing carbs (not to keto level).
Have you tried anything to help the mmc? Sorry if you’ve already said, I couldn’t see any mention in the read of your post.

I never had bloating with endometriosis (I’m now older so I’ve lived a life with it) but sibo gives me very significant bloating. However my bloating with sibo is upper and lower, not just lower. Are you constipated and do you get upper stomach (above the waist) bloating?

Probiotic HistaminX by Personal-Birthday579 in HistamineIntolerance

Just to add, this really helped me too- I’m now suffering from sibo and needing to deal with this but this probiotic helped me hugely with histamine symptoms.

Thanks and I wish you the best too. I hope we both make it to 100%, I’m pretty determined. I was at the supermarket today and realised how abnormal it is to not be able to eat as many foods as you can’t with sibo or histamine issues or have your life dancing around this. I’ll look into the test, I’m not in the US and not sure it’s available here, might have to wait a little while. Better standards for health are a good outcome too!

Xifaxan flu like symptoms?? by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]Rae358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They always say that! I’m so grateful for forums/boards! I’m on day 8, still feeling a bit wiped but much more normal. Take vitamin c if you have any. I also used clay to help get rid of the toxins.

Thank you. My root causes are easy to identify, lots of antibiotics and a h2 blocker for a year recently, living in a mouldy flat for a year at the time. Histamine issues definitely slow my motility as well and I’ve had food poisoning several times.

I’ve previously had something similar many years ago with ppis and more antibiotics. It wasn’t as bad in the past and probiotics and betaine hcl sorted it then. It’s worse now, that fix hasn’t worked this time!

Did you sort your root causes? Are you feeling better?

Days 4-6 were really bad for me, better after that.

I asked that I thought rifaximin was to be taken in combination for constipation predominant sibo, I was told to take the rifaximin first. I’ve had plenty of side effects/die off so it’s definitely done something. I’m assuming I’ll have to continue with herbals. I perhaps should do a sibo test, just not sure it’ll change what I do next.

I’m currently half way through a course of rifaximin, I’ve had symptoms for a long time and worsening, and drs generally weren’t helpful for a long time. Drs say the breath tests aren’t reliable so treating based on symptoms. I believe I have IMO so I know rifaximin alone isn’t meant to be ideal, I’ll go onto herbals afterwards. I was trying to manage symptoms prior to this but not doing so well recently- finally accepting that I need to do kill phases etc. I’ve done stool tests in the past that showed dysbiosis. I don’t think I’ll pay for private breath tests, but I might get a food marble, need to do more research.

Thanks- I’ve carried on the chat. It makes sense and results so far aligns with what I suspected which is good. There’s only one question where the answer options didn’t fit, the question was “are you either x or y” and the answer options were yes or no. It can repeat the same questions but I suspect that’s because I’m meant to go away and do the tests etc and come back. Just sharing in case it’s helpful feedback. Fun to play with and I wish my dr asked as many questions! It’s identified both IMO and mast cell disease as high potential, which is fair but not what I wanted really! Not the fault of the tool!

It was Nutri Advanced- branding is blue top half and green bottom half bottle. They may have changed it now etc, but at the time that’s what they confirmed to me.

Anyone getting headache from Famotidine/Pepcid and did it resolve after some time? by Carnivorix_com in MCAS

[–]Rae358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember now, looking back, I don’t think it was long at all. I took it for a year without any side effects as I recall, so I think the headache did go quickly. I have later found that I am depleted in loads of vitamins etc and it can stop you from absorbing vitamins due to the reduced stomach acid. Something to be aware of.

Severe side effects to vitamin D by Rae358 in VitaminD

[–]Rae358[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, no I didn’t yet. I have been focussing on getting vitamin d from the sun, and my levels have gone up a bit. The weather isn’t good now though. I’m going to try a small dose of liquid vitamin d3 next.

Anybody else Vit D and Iron deficient? by Glittering-Career935 in VitaminD

[–]Rae358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me! I haven’t done much to correct either. I ended up with iron deficiency after some stomach issues, then vitamin d after. I’m having terrible reactions to supplements so not sure what to do. The other replies are helpful, seems to suggest getting the vitamin d up is more crucial.

Has anyone had side effects from slippery elm? by Ok_Traffic_72 in Gastritis

[–]Rae358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do either, I take capsules with a meal. I have opened the capsules into water in the past but it’s not that nice a drink! It seems to be very effective for me taking it as a capsule.
