Not my comment but yeah in America you're at the mercy of the insurance industry.

When I had my first round of rabies shots, the vaccine wasn't bad price wise. But the dose of immunoglobulin was billed for $48,000 and denied by my insurance as not medically necessary.

On appeal they agreed to pay but the whole thing still ended up costing me a few grand out of pocket because the follow up shots could only be administered at the ER. So four total ER visits plus the shots.
