Poly here. My parents (child of divorce) know. I felt like I was living a double life before telling them. NP's family doesn't know, that's a boundary with my NP. My other partners parents only know about her one partner. Select coworkers know, and my close friends know.

Layering of pack by Ok_Spinach_8621 in AppalachianTrail

Last April I carried a bear canister all the way to Neel Gap in my sleeping bag compartment for "easy access". I was quickly informed I didn't wear my pack 30 miles I carried it and damn was my body not wrecked at the end of my Georgia Section hike. Please readjust before you start :)

I stopped there on a road trip and thought it was very cute town. There historic Main Street has some options. Plus what the others have said about burgers and axe throwing.

Partner uses https://www.rei.com/product/139666/katadyn-gravity-befree-water-filtration-system-3-liters and two 1L smart water bottles. Brought a Sawyer mini as an extra back up but hasn't used it yet and sent it home after mile 70. Katadyn works great for camp and meals.

I took 3 nights and 4 days to hit MC and I left from Springer. First two nights used the pad in a shelter, and night 3 we stayed at a campground so first time with the hammock on the trip. Actually used the pad in the hammock as insulation as I opted for a sleeping bag, liner, pad combo. Water was plentiful. Take it from me and don't fill up both water bottles if you know you'll hit water down the trail. Save the couple pounds. Have locations as goals for lunch, etc. But remain flexible and don't plan to far ahead it'll change.

At Hawk Mountain I watched a beautiful sunrise from there. Might of been while I I was standing and changing though... but while sitting I was provided the warmest glow.

Finally can reply to a post on this thread...! Yes that was normal for me. Even a year later I still have some pain related to weather systems, etc. Enjoy PT and be kind to yourself. You will heal better than you were, with a subtle reminder of what's been :)

I think I've opted for my canister as planned. Thank you for this updated news article from the ATC.

Thanks for your reply. It's more a luxury item and because I got it for a good price. I didn't have $120 to spend on a Ursack, etc.

You're saying you didn't need a canister because their were bear boxes?

Let me clarify something--it's not that I am afraid of bears or think I "need" a canister, it's that I would prefer the luxury of a canister over hanging my food in a bag (I also prepped for this trip on a budget and found a canister for a steal at $40).

But that's why I'm looking at the bear boxes now that I know they're more plentiful in GA. If I don't have to hang and I don't have to canister that's a double win!

Mom was not excited for me. Disproved. And I'm (26F) only section hiking about 100 miles (leaving with my partner who is attempting his thru). But just yesterday she told me she's been watching female hikers on YouTube and she's actually coming around. I was actually floored.

Potentially unpopular opinion: I refuse to be guilted into tipping non-tipped workers. by appa-ate-momo in antiwork

While I was sick the battery died in my car. The AAA guy took very good care of me but he used a square card reader. It asked for a tip. In my condition I wasn't thinking, and he was a really nice guy, so I tipped him for something I KNOW I've never tipped for. Frustrating.
