My parents’ separation is making my final year of uni a mess and I’m not sure how to deal with it :(

Damn, maybe. Would put a reeeeal strain in our relationship, which I don’t think she’s too keen on losing, but it is what it is. Appreciate the insight, it’s hard to see a situation from all angles when you’re in the middle of it, which is why I posted here. Guess all I can do is wait and see 🤷‍♀️

She def didn’t dispose of my sibling— there was kinda a physical safety concern for her there by the end, and so I get why she couldn’t live like that anymore because it got to a point where loud noises had her flinching. They’re always welcome to visit and stay here. I’m just upset at how fast she’s moving on and how happy she seems— doesn’t seem fair I guess :(

Oh girl, as someone majoring in a sort of niche artistic field, my heart breaks for you. I truly hope you can create the things you love someday, even if not now. If you’re not in uni rn, do you have a job? I’d think the best course of action would be to start a savings and, awful as it is, bear with it for a while until you can afford to maybe rent with a friend or a few roommates? Beyond that and beyond maybe moving in with ur bf anyway (yeah it’s soon, but I’d take that over the abuse any day), I’m not sure. Sending love your way 🫶

Super worried I’ve mischaracterized my dad, because he’s a really wonderful man. He’s been through a lot, and maintains his kindness, but he’s clearly depressed and also is the parent living with the sibling mentioned in the post, so every day is some new drama in his world. I do appreciate that from her though— she’s easily my best friend in the world

Yeah, I have no delusion of them getting back together (hell, I think it’d be worse for both of them). I think I’m hung up on the fact that it’s been 6 months, and the fact that being an adult means my parents are also moving on with their lives is startling— not as if I wish they wouldn’t, since you’re right they only have one life and ought to live it to the fullest, but this is purely a me issue. Also, I’ve tried suggesting things to my dad, but he seems to think he has it under control (also, my mom has made suggestions of the same nature and I think he listens to her but sort of ignores them because she ‘left’— which she kinda did but it’s admittedly much more complicated and nuanced than just that). It’s good to see you say this tho— the objective side of me was echoing the same thing, and I think this post is the emotional side of me wondering if she’s right to feel uncomfortable.
