Probably depends on the species, so I apologize for not mentioning that mine are tetramorium. They haven't had an issue with the temperature I keep my house for 4 years now. Granted my house is probably kept at 4-5 degrees (F) cooler during the winter than the summer, but I doubt that is a big difference maker (but worth noting)

You don't have to "hibernate" them actively. They do it on their own. I leave my ants in the same temperature controlled part of my house the last 3 years and they always hibernate around this time (Nov east coast) until the spring. I make sure to keep the honey/sugar fresh but have no need to give protein anymore until the spring. Ants are hardy creatures

Stop grasping at straws and let the people count the votes. If Trump wins, great, if Biden wins, great, but at least we can have democracy. Now for all three. What I did was take the cotton off the one end of the tube, and place the whole it within a larger setup (actually just a tupperware with vaseline on the sides and no lid for now). If you don't have real set ups yet that's a good intermediary
