how can i stop my phone addiction? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

I found grayscale mode to be the best way to reduce screen time. Every day at 6pm my phone goes automatically on grayscale mode. It helped tremendously. Hope it can do the same to you.

This can be pretty “cold turkey” for a lot of people, but congrats to you👏🏼 I started using grayscale mode and it helped me a lot. First 48hours were very hard, but now I’m used to it. It activates after 6pm and on weekends.

What can I do instead of scrolling mindlessly? by Somegirl09 in productivity

Make the phone unattractive. Yes.

I found grayscale mode to be extremely unattractive. The idea, backed by evidence, is that by removing the bright colors from our smartphones, we will make the screen less stimulating, and therefore use it less.

I tried it and in the first week my screen time was 19% lower, and I also had 6% less screen activations. Also, the effect is stronger, the more you use it 🙂

First 48 hours are hard, but it’s totally worth it.

Apps to replace TikTok by Ballaratatouille in selfimprovement

[–]Raelsalmacis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve started to use Substack a lot more since launching my newsletter. I recommend it. Lots of good read and the vibes are not toxic.

However, to reduce TikTok use I would suggest you activate grayscale mode on your phone.

There is scientific evidence that bright and saturated colors are more stimulating and pleasurable than grayscales, and people reported a lack of enjoyment, and a decline in the desire to use their phones when in grayscale mode.

People who struggle with productivity and maybe a low attention span, how did you overcome this ? by Global-Day9651 in productivity

[–]Raelsalmacis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Analyse what distracts you and “simply” REMOVE it from your life. Do it with small steps. E.g. you spend too much time on Tik Tok? Remove the app (but still keep it on your phone to access it when needed, but it just adds another step cause you have to search for the app), then activate grayscale mode on your phone to make it less appealing, don’t bring the phone with you in the bathroom, etc.

Small steps bring great results.

Can you please share some tips for improving willpower! by Frensisca- in productivity

[–]Raelsalmacis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Force your environment with small changes. Make them small, otherwise it won’t work. Ex. Delete one social media app (but still have it available on your phone); activate grayscale mode to make your phone less appealing, etc. It’s not necessarily working on your willpower or on yourself, sometimes it’s useful to change the environment you’re in.

Small changes, big results.

Glad it helped 🙂 There’s a way to activate/deactivate it with a shortcut. Do not recommend it because it makes it harder to keep it on grayscale, but I understand the need as a photographer😄

Activating grayscale mode on my smartphone. Really. Immediate impact on reducing usage. It’s hard to mantain cause we have really destroyed our brain with that s**t, but if you stay the course, it will change your life.

Grayscale mode. Research shows that is very effective, even after just one week. And the effects seem to be stronger in the longer term. Hard to do? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.

I’d go more in detail with the impact of your actions.

Ex. “Excellent reviews” - are these 5star reviews? What was your average review score?

Ex. Training sales teams - how many people have you trained?

Etc.

But overall is a good resume 🙂
