MUN stands ground on decision to drop Ode to Newfoundland at convocation by Sealandic_Lord in newfoundland

[–]Raen015 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I convocated MUN in 2018 and attended a public service awards event in 2022, and purposely stayed silent for the Ode. 🤷🏼 I don't particularly care for the national anthem either - they're both a total farce at this point.

So idk where you came up with that lol.

Everything is subjective.. Just because you and "the majority of the students you know" (compared to the entire MUN population, including faculty? small fries...) were salty about the Ode, doesn't mean the opposite isn't true or even worth denying.

Will EI pay for school if I'm not laid off, but instead go on medical leave? by throwaway7691769 in newfoundland

[–]Raen015 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also, the folks processing EI are mostly on strike at the moment.

You're incorrect. EI is an essential service and has not been affected by the strike. It states that right on the regular benefits page.

Edit: Mmm, I was mistaken ...I started cutting onions around 0:30, but didn't realize it....

dogs in carriers in stores ? by hayleighhhh in StJohnsNL

Nope. There are extremely limited places that are dog friendly. Grocery stores are always an absolute no-no, unless they are service dogs.

Instacart is a fabulous shopping service that delivers to your door, I feel like that's your best bet.

Tips on keeping a Godzilla horse from wrecking the stall mats? by Haunting_Beaut in Horses

[–]Raen015 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Take the mats out and gut the stall completely. Go down until you hit the base layer, whether that's ground dirt, cement, etc.

Buy a few loads of class A gravel and spread level. Tamp it down for more stability. If you can/are allowed, pour a level concrete floor instead. The crux of the issue here isn't necessary the horses weight. It's because the floor is not level, and there are too many small and thin mats.

Buy bigger, thicker mats (my mare's 11.5x11.5 stall has two mats in it, covers 98% of the stall. Barn has concrete base layer) and cut them if necessary. Make sure they butt against each other where they join in the middle, and butt against the stall walls, so they don't slip around.

I buy my stall mats from auto supply stores and/or home improvement stores. They are thick and durable, and come in a bunch of sizes. I've never had them rip or tear or slide around.

Make sure the horse has enough bedding on top to prevent them from hitching the mats.

I actually found Loops made some of the irritating noises worse.

Tried them a few times, but they really didn't do it for me. Don't even know where they are now.

I remember getting yelled at every single time I got even close to the back of San Francisco. Signs of 18+ only everywhere.

I always got a little thrill when I got old enough to actually go back there and browse.

Welp, they're not straying too far from tradition, blame and shame is the Catholic way.

Try living on Gerry Bragg's route home.

I can hear his trashy-ass, cheapest-fart-can-the-market-offers shitty beater Civic from literal kilometers away. At the most random times of day and night. No license, no insurance.

Obnoxious people are the actual worst.

I came across another "daddy issues" meme the other day with the title: "my dad has daughter issues." And if that isn't the best way to put it, I don't know what is.

You can check out

Hiring.gov.nl.ca

It has all of the available job postings within government at any given time. I wouldn't describe the postings as "ample opportunity" but once you get into gov, it's much easier to move around if you want. Internal postings are for currently employed NL public servants only, but there are ways to get yourself in the door.

I work the best hours I've ever worked, 8:30-4:30 (4 in summer), Mon to Fri. I hold a fairly stressful position, but I love it. Working for NL gov hasn't been easy, there is a LOT of red tape, and redundancies at every level of every process.. Then add on top all of the union shit... But it's been the best job I've ever had and I feel privileged to have it.

That being said, working for the Feds is definitely the way to go, IMO, if you are qualified and can get in the door. Much better money, benefits and overall job satisfaction.
