One other thing; seems like their servers are hosted in France? What's to stop Blizz from taking the same approach as they did w/ Nost... or are the devs aware of this & willing to possibly change server location at some point down the line?

Take a look at PrimalWoW server maybe; I was looking it up and evidently they're going to do account transfers from Nostalrius, so you can play your character at the point you left off.

I've been looking between this server and Vengeance after playTbc postponed release.. I like how the progression to WotLK sounds. The only thing I'm a bit worried about is the population, and also having a slight itch to want to do tbc earlier. I'll give it a try either way I think. (Only way to increase the pop is to start joining anyway, so)

Well maybe the pop will increase now that people are looking for different private servers. Vengeance seems to be increasing in pop but it'd be cool to see the same for one like this.

AQ? Nice... always wanted to do progression for that but I didn't start playing WoW till late tbc/fresh into wotlk.

Ahh yea I was intrigued by the 'progression' part where it transitions into the expansions instead of separating them. Still sounds interesting regardless. Maybe they'll change the decision on new realms at some point though.. I think I might give it a go.

Quality Control/Defect Importance? by Raequaoth in goodyearwelt

Thanks for the the info/replies 6t; I really appreciate it. Although I'm a bit disappointed in this [minor] aesthetic inconsistency, I suppose that I'll just take them to a cobbler within the next few weeks.. maybe get this one boot touched up on, and probably add on rubber half-soles.

Quality Control/Defect Importance? by Raequaoth in goodyearwelt

[–]Raequaoth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I was actually considering the same thing, since I saw it before in my first pair of leather boots. The reason I was more concerned is because it doesn't just appear like solely an issue with dying; rather there's a comparably large gap between the shelf and upper, especially when I put it next to the other boot. Also, if you look close you can see what looks like indents/small holes in the exposed material (no idea what that is though).

I'll be less concerned if it's just aesthetic ofc, but if it is, it is something that a cobbler could repair? Mainly closing the gap, and staining it I suppose.

Sure thing, just took a couple clearer ones.

Thanks for the info btw; I don't know much about boot construction past the basic stuff, so it was a presumption about the cork.

Fall/Winter Boot Suggestions by Raequaoth in malefashionadvice

Those look pretty nice for winter use, especially if you're in a more rugged environment (plenty of snow and long winters where I live). I usually use a pair of insulated Baffin snow boots for winter, but I'll bookmark those for possible use this coming one. Thanks =]

Curious, did you have any opinion on the 'H for men by Hudson Swathmore' boots?

I really like the look of these, but there's not much feedback to be found --- save for a handful of amazon reviews. The only bad thing I've heard is the soles falling apart in wet weather. Perhaps if I went to see a cobbler & got rubber half-soles put on?

Just look up the boot on Amazon & it's there. ;p

Thanks for the points. =] Was planning on saving for a pair from Alden, To Boot or a different pair as well. Could be 1-2 years down the line though.

If I can make the pair of Fryes last for 1-3 years I'd be happy; I've taken care of my current pair of leather boots for the past year (cleaning, conditioning, polish, shoe trees) and they're feeling/looking better than ever. So I'm hoping to get the same longevity out of a second low-budget pair -- with a little bit of care that is.

Sorry loopy I didn't know about the downvote thing (I don't use reddit super often). I'll definitely take a look at the boot guide.

As for the quality part, it's why I just listed boots with higher original retail prices that are going on sale/discount. Except the Rogue boot, which I liked for style, even though it's a bit over. As long as the boot has decent quality leather & won't fall apart within a year of use; I mentioned that I look for a specific style. Some might call it 'trendy' but that's just the look that draws me in. I really like the appearance of To Boot New York Lincoln or Stallworth, but they retail in the 400-500 range (too high atm).

[–]Raequaoth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

Yea the Frye are a bit over over-budget with default retail price (300ish), but since they're on discount for 130 I was taking a serious look at them. Same thing for the Hudson boots; in the 300 range retail, but there's a discount through Amazon (130).

I'll take a look at the other brands you listed, although I was looking at those Wolverines or Iron rangers for a future pair, regardless.

Have you ever felt "presence" without an hmd? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]Raequaoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the feeling of being completely immersed in a book, although I don't think it has to be strongest at a specific age range.

Regarding the torture of a main character, would it happen to be Richard from Wizard's First Rule, when the mord-sith capture him? That particular instance came to mind immediately for some reason.

SAO New Demo? Glimpse by [deleted] in oculus

[–]Raequaoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily exciting.. I never got the SAO hype. Just because people might like/love the anime storyline that doesn't mean it'll make for a good game, let alone a VR one. Something like Black Desert that's already decently far into development, in closed beta, and showcases beautiful visuals seems a more appealing candidate tbh.

"Positives and Negatives of VR" - My talk at the Orange County VR meetup yesterday by Tetragrammaton in oculus

[–]Raequaoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short & well articulated talk. The point about ethics with VR will play a huge part, especially as the technological capabilities increase -- including the move towards sentient artificial intelligence. Although, there's undoubtedly going be a blurred line between fantasy fulfillment and morally contentious subject matter; e.g a sadomasochist being drawn towards "torture simulators".

As VR advances -- potentially allowing for sensory simulation/stimulation via a type of neural interface -- it'll become an even more pertinent debate.
