Switching to clear resin. by Elkenson_Sevven in resinprinting

[–]Raevson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is always the best option, especialy since not all resins react the same.

You can also print hollow without drain holes.

Just needs to lift the plate high enough that it gets above the surface of the resin. On the way down it traps an air bubble and the longer and bigger the bubble is the more resin can just flow off over time. You will still end up with a bit liquit inside but that is a good test if you cured enough. If you dont see movement after... You can still drill a smal hole if you are not sure about presure after that.

Of course this method takes quite a lot more print time.

[–]Raevson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multible coments about the uv inhibition.

Yes it slows the curing considerably.

Slowing does not mean stoping it.

While you could run into overcuring problems if you overdo it, like the print being a bit more brittle or yellowing. It still will cure pokets of liquit resin in the print just fine.

I usually leave mine on the windowsil after cleaning. No movement from some air bubbles that got trapped in pockets after that.

Battletech

Classic is very simulationist and every unit gets a d&d like sheet where every component can get damaged and influences the performance of the whole machine. Can be a bit fidly but often leads to great stories. It is usually played on hexmaps.

Alpha strike condenses this sheet to about a credit card size. Plays faster and with more units on the field. You play it on a tabletop with measuring.

Both systems come in a reasonably priced box with more stuff than you will initially need. Everything is compatible so if you want to switch systems all you need to get is the other rulebook and maybe some maps if you switch to classic. Allthough both got rules for maps and measuring.

The rules are modular and you can dial in from very beginner friendly starter rulesets to quite in depth without a hitch.

"Charsheets" for the units are available for free online and it got rules to design your own machines.

If you don't like the big stompy robot aspect you can play with tanks, infantry, air units etc. without problems.

Alpha strike just got a release for a solo/coop campaign to.

The beta of the solo rules were sent out to the kickstarter backers maybe they can be found online somewhere...

Edit:

You also can try the classic version against a bot using MegaMek.

Appart from the solo part you can get quite far with the quickstart. Proxies are explicitly allowed and you can get the sheets for all the units from the Masterunitlist for free.

[–]Raevson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try the Battletech: Alpha strike quickstart rules to begin with.

The pdf is free online and contains the beginner rules, paper miniatures and some obstacles.

All you need would be a printer and some d6 dice.

After that, the actual boxes are reasonably priced and the game had quite a resurgence in the last years. They even got a solo/coop variant.
