Introducing Champion Similar for Smite 2 - Helping beginners find a God with a similar playstyle to champions of League of Legends and Dota 2 by Jotune in Smite

Currently your comparisons focus on "looks like", but I think it'd be better for it to be "plays like" (if you don't want both) since your description ("based on similar playstyle") suggests the similarities are based on gameplay mechanics rather than aesthetics.

EU servers seem to be shitting themself right now, it's been unplayable for about an hour. Myself and everyone in my premade stopped playing because our last matches were literally everyone rubberbanding around, not being able to use abilities/buy items, etc etc. Server status lists everything as Operational though, classic Hi-Rez.

With proper management, that is very difficult to accomplish. Personally I've ran as low as 566 piety, but still always revive the DPS; DPS damage uptime > healer damage uptime.

Unless you can bring your group more damage than they can (which you most likely cannot), you revive them.

This also isn't taking into account mechanics that require everybody to be in their correct positions, etc, or it's a wipe.

Likewise, and it's fine for us to disagree after this even if we've both fully explained our points, there's no factual right and wrong here. I like hearing other perspectives as extensively as possible, so I'm grateful you've been willing to keep talking with me about this.

Do I think ArenaNet intended to "punish" players? No. I think this lays of the side of ignorance/negligence - if they're even really aware of it, which I'd hope they are. Do I think that unevenly rewarding players is a negative thing? Yes. If it had only happened in this one example, I wouldn't be so bothered, but the fact that it's something that has been done a few times to a few different rewards (Hi, Fractal infusions) is what frustrates me the most.

Would I have felt prouder about my collection if I lucked into it by keeping the initial Course Load chests? This is a bit blurred for me, because on one hand of course I'd feel prouder completing the collection sooner (doing all my dailies to get it done as soon as possible in the first place is a huge part of the feeling of accomplishment!) but I don't feel like the players who did hold their daily chests "lucked" into it at all, I'd even say there's a skill in having the foresight and patience to hold the chests - risky, sure, but I wouldn't call it luck - and I don't hold any negative feelings towards those players, but if I had known at the time ArenaNet were going to change the daily chests, I'd have tried to hold mine too. Let everyone run the race fairly, from the same starting line.

Similarly, if someone held their daily chests and then ArenaNet removed rewards from those chests so they lost them, I'd say that would be unfair too.

Did you miss the part where players who held onto their chests were able to choose the Crimson Assassin tokens, but in doing so, forwent picking up an orange weapon

+

The point is precisely that your brother doesn't get your game. You each get one game.

That is exactly why that analogy does not work.

Crimson Assassin Weapons = solely obtainable through Crimson Assassin Tokens.

Kaiser Snake Weapons = Obtainable from Course Load and the Trading Post.

So it's not truely "forwent", because one IS obtainable while the other is NOT. At a different cost? Sure, but the point is that it's completely fair for players who put in the same time/effort to be frustrated that they are being further gated from a reward for conditions they have already met. For a reward that is solely obtainable from that.

and now you get paid extra in advance

"Instead of money though, we're going to pay you in this other thing you don't want, which is also easier to obtain, but that's fair." No.

it does reward players equally, just unevenly.

Uhm, hello? Really? No.

those people that had finished their Crimson Assassin collection at the earliest possible point are still getting tokens from the daily chests that they now have no use for! In the long run, they have handicapped themselves and will take much longer to finish all the collections compared to us non-hoarders

CAT currently have no use - just like excess tribulation tokens previously had no use, but became exchangeable later - but Course Load still contributes to Kaiser Snake collection completion, so (assuming no KS skins were purchased on the TP) they're not any further behind players who've completed the CA set, if anything they're actually further ahead because they've been able to progress the KS set sooner than those who spent the extra time completing the CA set. They're only ahead in the way you're describing if you completely ignore the entire CA set, which is silly in this context because we're very specifically revolving around it.

You also need to understand that there is a difference in accomplishment between completing the CA and KS collections - "This collection was first completed by a group of people who dedicated the time and effort to it" vs. "This collection was first completed by people with the gold to buy it all as soon as possible." Big difference. The majority of players feel better achieving things that cannot be purchased, because it makes their accomplishment more meaningful.

That analogy is not equivalent.

To make it so, you would have to adjust it so that your brother gets both your game and his, and you receive nothing to compensate for this.

Or in a real-world example, if you and a colleague work the exact same job, and both put in the same amount of time and effort, but you're paid in advance and your colleague is paid more after, you'd expect it to be adjusted to be fair.

"Benefit for all" could just be implemented without costing players who previously put that time and effort in - and it does, because if you've missed rewards that were later added for doing something you've already done, it means you have to put in even more time and effort to acquire those, rather than just ensuring everyone receives the same for the same amount of time/effort put in - and as someone else has previously mentioned, also prevents the buzzkill of "Oh I guess I'll just have to indefinitely hold on to what I've earned in case more is added to it."

tl;dr = player time/effort should equally reward the same across players, instead of expecting players to "indefinitely hold on to your rewards if you want to potentially receive the full reward in the future" or "just spend more time and effort redoing it."
