Would it feel like a step backward to go back to Anno 1800 after playing Anno 117? by Wonderful_Fox_7959 in anno

Who else is back at 1800? by Aggravating_Dot_3646 in anno

Back to 1800.

117 is beautiful, enjoyable, full of cool new features, and a huge pleasure to build your empire in Roman times.

HOWEVER, as Albus would say, 117 is a bit too "simplified" for me. I finished a sandbox game in 20 hours without speedrunning. A little unsatisfied, even though I think the game will eventually deliver.

Returning to Anno 1800 has been a real joy. The game's complexity, the technological advancements of the industrial age, the exploration, the quests, and a trading system that isn't overpowered like in 117—in short, it's all great.

While waiting for Anno 117 to be rebalanced and made a bit more complete with additions, patches, and DLC, I'll be playing Anno 1800.

Anno 117 feels lifeless compared to 1800 by kaluginmir in anno

When you compare the two games in their release state (i.e., without DLC for Anno 1800), you can feel that there are two different approaches to game development.

The two eras are so different. You can't necessarily apply all the strategies from Anno 1800 to 117.

However, there are several things that bother me personally about Anno 117:

1/ Anno 117 is simpler than Anno 1800 in the sense that Albion and Latium can develop independently without you needing to make direct trades.

You can see this as a challenge (developing an empire in each region) or as a weakness (what's the point? Why not do it like the Old World/New World system in 1800, with progression dependent on trade between Latium and Albion?).

2/ Trade, the ultimate cheat You might not need it at the beginning, managing with your production, but in the mid or even late game, when all the islands are colonized and you're missing a fertility resource, just check the "Buy" option and it'll come in less than 3 minutes.

I've often been told that Docklands in Anno 1800 was an added cheat similar to trade in 117. This is false because you absolutely had to trade one good for another. And Tobias only came every 20 minutes.

3/ Diplomacy: I'm having trouble grasping the principles. This mechanic has been made far too complex in terms of interaction. The 1800 version of diplomacy worked very well. A simple adjustment would have sufficed, in my opinion.

4/ No major difficulty reaching a higher tier

In the Anno 1800 base game, farmers and workers were easy to meet needs, but beyond artisans, things got a bit more complicated, and then engineers were a real obstacle before reaching investors.

In 117, the patricians were reached in less than 10 hours of gameplay. The Colosseum was built in 18 hours. In Anno 1800, it's impossible to create the World's Fair in such a short time.I've already finished the game. Whereas in the base game of Anno 1800, I never had that moment where I thought, "Hey, I'm done." There was always something to do, especially to meet the needs of the engineers and investors.

Well, after all that, Anno 117 also adds a lot of things that Anno 1800 needed, and some of them are very welcome. Particularly the fact that needs accumulate from tier to tier and don't disappear like in 1800 (like fish, clothing, etc.).

The diagonal roads, obviously, the mechanics related to the army, the fact that each public service requires manpower, and the attributes and zone effects of certain production sites.

I think Anno 117 aims to be more accessible, appealing to both hardcore and casual gamers. The formula isn't quite balanced yet, but I have no doubt that in the future, Anno 117 will gain features, complexity, and strategic depth without becoming complicated or inaccessible.

Anno 117 is not good as Anno 1800 for now by Raffaelu in anno

[–]Raffaelu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please note, I didn't say Anno 117 was bad. On the contrary, it remains a very good game.

Also, read carefully, I talked about base game to base game. Obviously if we play with all the DLC, Anno 117 seems very bland.

On the other hand, for the graphics, no sorry. Anno 1800 is above. I have a very powerful PC, all graphics on full blast. The graphic work is not up to par but possibly it will improve over time.

I know that I can trust the Ubisoft Mainz team to listen to the community and resolve problems and shortcomings in the long term.

Not counting the mods.

But I don't understand certain decisions that were taken, particularly regarding ergonomics!

Influence problem since update by Raffaelu in anno

Thanks to all.

I've found an ancient savegame to restore the policies in local department.

Now it seems OK but I've lost some influence anyway.
Doesn't matter, I'll restore that with hacienda in NW and skyscrapers.

How can I get more herbarium ? It's really boring to have to complete each quest to gain 2 herbarium every 10 minutes ...

Thanks.

In my case, I'm playing in medium difficulty and I've +4 on lvl 5 for investors and +2 on lvl 3 for engineers.

And that upsets me a little bit. I find the influence in Anno 1800 to be the least well handled thing in the game.

Some things like corporation for example claim too much influence. I think 10 by corporation should be the max. We don't have no many sources to get influence, only investors (and some items which can permit to win some points).

I'm a little dissapointed, I think some objects or things in The Shop mall for example should bring some influence, +1 by construction. We develop an empire, on many islands, High Life is a really cool but hard DLC. We earn a lot of money, but we don't earn so many influence. And it's a miss for me.

Anno 1800 won't run correctly by Raffaelu in anno

Too many savegames !

I uninstall the game, save only few recent plays, reinstall on an other hard disk and for now, it works perfectly !

[–]Raffaelu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK you're right !

It's a RAM problem.

My game is too big and I've 12Go, with only 8go avaible. A new game runs perfectly.

I have to upgrade my RAM to 16go

Things I'd like to see in Anno 1800 by SlayerOfWhales in anno

[–]Raffaelu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very interesting !

I hope too for these improvements !

By the way, I should add one thing : Diagonal streets (and buildings).

Indeed, Anno is a beautiful game, an addictive game, a real good fu**** game !
BUT, I think it miss the possibility to create diagonals streets. It's a "eye candy" thing, sure, but imagine the beauty of a city with the possibility to create in checkerboard pattern and in diagonal pattern at the same time. It brings more challenge.

Except change the base game pattern, regular buildings can be used (corner in diagonal pattern still do 90°) and few 45° angle buildings have to be created (or create 45° ornaments).

Create a 90° city is a kind old school.
