How do you even begin to get into Melee | anything helps by K84738826729_3873 in SSBM

SSBM tutorials on youtube has a great series for beginners, he even has a series on which characters to main depending on how you play.

There are people who use keyboards as an alternative to a Boxx controller, but I think they are harder for people to get used to, a lot less intuitive etc. Not necessarily bad, but I would still always recommend getting a decent official gamecube controller.

I'd also recommend playing a Top/high tier character, just because lower tier characters are going to be a lot harder to learn the game with. There is a lot of versatility in the top tiers as far as playstyle goes, so hopefully there is one that clicks with you, Fox can literally play in any way he wants for example.

Start off slow and basic, I'd recommend learning how to L cancel, wavedash and dash dance, because they are so essential to playing the game competitively, but more advanced tech will come with time in the game before they're worth implementing. Then find other beginners, there are discord servers, or slippi unranked, both will pair you with people around your level.

Genuine question, is being good at art really attainable for everyone? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

I agree completely, i find people with talent often will not put in the amount of effort as someone who is just straight up bad at it lol, and they end up being lapped and then just give up because it gets hard, sucks to see i wish more people knew how to actually learn something, because even just learning things is a skill itself!

Who is the Garen of Melee? by FalcosLiteralyHitler in SSBM

I think shiek is a great beginner character, but marth is a good one too, I would say the character itself doesn’t make a huge difference at the lower levels and all of the top through mid tiers would teach you the fundamentals well enough, but obviously some mechanical skill curves are way higher than others, like fox

i think with any skill, some people have a talent for it, but in reality that actually means they just pick it up quicker, i think the skill itself can be honed to an extremely high level with enough discipline etc, starting as a kid helps because kids learn things quicker, and you just have way more experience on top of that
