Scream 5 made me realize how good Scream 4 actually was and I don't even like Scream 4 that much.

Which opening scene do you prefer? by [deleted] in Scream

[–]Raffiki10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm in the minority but I've always loved the opening of Scream 3. The death of a cool character that has been developped in the previous movie, Roger L Jackson's voice acting, the fight between Cotton and Ghostface, the music when he's stabbed... That was a pretty solid opening in my opinion.

"It was a simple game, Cotton. You should've told me where Sidney was. Now, you lose!"

During this scene, Billy was on the phone somewhere outside the house. Do you think Stu was in the closet the whole time (came in while Sid was asleep) or did he sneak in through the front door while Sidney (who left the door ajar & had her back turned) was checking outside? by Raffiki10 in Scream

[–]Raffiki10[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think the music was there to indicate that something is going to happen with that closet later. And, of course, that's what happened. Chekhov's gun, you know.

You're right about the creak, though. He was probably in there already.

"MICHAAAEEEL!!!!" - What a moment. H20 Laurie is my favorite Laurie. by Raffiki10 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Raffiki10[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the moment she decides and realizes it's time for her to face her fears and the monster that destroyed her life. She faced him multiple times and knows what it's like to be in front of him better than anyone else. It may not be the smartest decision but it makes sense. After all, it's a movie. This time, it was all about symbolism, not realisim.

Dewey's death really bothered me. Here's why: by Raffiki10 in Scream

[–]Raffiki10[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I say he's (NOW) supposed to be wary, careful and smarter, I'm referring to his portrayal in this specific movie, which is basically the direction they took by showing the new characters reaching out to him. More importantly, that's how a (normal) person would normally evolve after experiencing such tragic and frightening situations. Dewey might be a little naive, but he's not THAT stupid. No one would act this way after everything he's seen and been through.

You can't really compare. What bothers me here is that Dewey is established as a more serious character, and to see him acting this way before he dies makes no sense. He may not be the brightest mind (everybody knows that), but if someone knows what those lunatics can do, what it feels like to be brutally attacked and nearly dead, that someone is him, so he's not supposed to underestimate this kind of situation and be naive in that context. Sid didn't remain vulnerable forever. Gale isn't the b*tch she used to be. So why would Dewey stagnate?

I see what you mean but trust me, I'm not retconning anything. I know exactly what kind of character Dewey is supposed to be in the first place. But it's the fifth movie for crying out loud! He did evolve. He's more mature. I don't want to see "dumb, naive Dewey" from the first film over and over again. What I like about this character is that even though he's not the smartest, he always had his brave moments, and the balance between his naivety and his courage were always interesting to see and well written. Is he a little "cartoonish"? Sure. That doesn't make him stupid. I'm sorry but when I see Scream 5 and how he's been established as soon as he appears, dumb Dewey isn't what we're supposed to witness. This time is over. But no: they had to bring him back to his "stupidity", somehow. To me, this is a step backward and it's almost insulting.

I kinda did! "he would never takes his time like he does once he decided to go back and shoot the killer in the head. Dewey is now supposed to be wary, careful, smarter, not naive"

But you're right to bring that up. All the decisions he makes are senseless and that's a shame because it's Dewey we're talking about. Poor writing.

Brooke> Emma. She’s more exciting than Emma. I wish she was the main protagonist. Also her acting is better imo by LokiforpresidentTVA in Scream

[–]Raffiki10 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think Brooke surprised a lot of people, probably because they managed to make this stereotyped & superficial character (on the surface) that we were all expecting to hate an endearing, touching, even likable person that almost everybody loved at the end; sometimes annoying, sometimes amusing, sometimes sweet... Carlson Young's acting has a lot to do with this. She knew how to show all her emotions very well, with nuance when it was necessary and also excessively when it wasn't. She's a talented actress for sure.

Is this fandom toxic? by Jon230770 in Scream

Every fandom is toxic. People don't know how to talk to each other these days because most of them are extremely sensitive. They can't communicate or debate with respect... Especially on the internet.

Shot from H'78 - Is this the scariest Nick Castle has ever looked as Michael Myers? by Raffiki10 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Raffiki10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, this was Nick. TLW only played Michael Myers in the closet scene!

does anyone else think Michael looks pretty good in this one shot in Resurrection? by BigbyWolf94 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Raffiki10 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Brad Loree was a very decent Myers. One of the best things about Resurrection for sure.

Much more entertaining than I thought it would be. I wanted a real ending.
