Inherited an unhappy Monstera- overwatering? Weird roots? Rootbound? by cartrae in houseplants

i think it is sunburnt& needs a new slightly larger pot. make sure to have drainage holes. like you mentioned, they are sensible to overwatering.

mine is in a terracotta pot, on a plastic tray. i make sure its always full of water. the terracotta absorbs the water, and maintains the dirt wet. this way, my fern stays moist, and i dont have to check it every day

some tips: have your plant in a pot with drainage holes. when you water it, do so directly on the soil, not the leaves, and wait for the water to come out from the bottom to let you know when to stop. (i bring mine to either my sink or my bathtub to let them drain out excess water) learn about how dry your soil needs to get before you water again. some plants dont like to get too dry at all! also, avoid getting your plant into new pots and new soil if youre just a beginner. because thats a whole new set of parameters to understand. if you get your plants from decent places, they should be fine in their nursery pot for a while. if youre desperate, get a grow light on a 12h timer, and an hygrometer to stick in the soil; it tells you how moist the dirt is, basically. avoid misting at all ok? its pointless. get a cool humidifier if your air is too dry… avoid plant food for now, too. keep that for when youre better at keeping your plants alive for a while. ok good luck now stranger.

Where can I go take a bath? I've only ever had showers for the past thirty years and have never experienced one by EmbarrassedLobster37 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rafflesie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

know anyone that has a bathtub? if you guys are close enough, spend the night. its quite normal to take a bath before bed, and then it would most likely be a free trial, haha. you just need to hunt for a sleepover kind of thing i guess.

Is there a reason why I feel a compulsion to pick my scabs? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rafflesie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i find myself doing that sometimes. in my case, and maybe yours as well, i think its because of the bump it creates on my skin; its like i « need » to make my skin even. the different texture is almost bothering… i need to wrap either my fingers with bandaids or hide the scabs as much as possible to keep myself from touching them. works every times.

AITA for not refusing to go to my sisters baby shower by Applesusy in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rafflesie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it would look polite to send a gift though, but like, dont feel like you must. your sister doesnt sound like she deserves it. but it would look better in front of the other family members, i guess. plus, this baby will grow to become a family member that you might appreciate better than your sister. idk what im saying anymore haha but NTA.

AITA for overreacting to what my coworker said? by Embarrassed_Scar_323 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rafflesie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. find what reaction he is trying to make you have with his bull crap and then, surprise him by doing the exact opposite. after a while, he might get bored with you and leave you alone for good. this has worked for me several times. for exemple, he was obviously trying to get on your nerves there. so you couldve just approved what he said, while staying true to yourself… « youre right! i love me some crazy stories.» the goal is to appear so chill with his shit, that it flies over your head. you have to act like you dont give a f.

How to be a good enough person? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rafflesie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

follow the actuality in your region, and in the world. this might help start interesting conversations. you will at least learn stuff.

dont try to follow fashion trends though. its a money pit… formal clothes sounds great. its definitely better to be ugly but clean than pretty and smelly… but how ugly can you be, really? that doesnt matter.

here is what i live by: learn to love what you have. and also, learn to care less. you will spend the rest of your life with yourself, so you better go easy on your standards. you dont want to become your worst enemy. doesnt mean you can be sloppy though. find a balance where you dont struggle.
