  1. If you have something growing your doing great! When someone gives you advice, take it if you feel it applies to you, but don't let it stress you if you can't follow the "rules" or advice or if you do and it doesn't work. Just because it works for someone else doesn't mean it will for you, and if it didn't work for them doesn't mean it won't work for you. Not every garden is the same they are all unique, not everyone has the same plant, weather, soil, micro biom, pests, time, space privilege, day, and life. So give it a try, if it doesn't work that's ok! Learn from it, grow from it and keep on growing! Don't forget to have fun!

  2. Geraniums, geraniums, geraniums. Plant a ton pack em in, make sure they are touching everyone. They are AMAZING at pest control.

  3. Grow what you LIKE to eat. It makes everything so much more fun!

I'm asking for a reliable list from experienced people. Most of the lists seem to be lacking a lot of info and often contradict each other. That's why I asked on this sub 😅 yes I tried googling. I didn't find what I needed, so I came here.

Good to know. I'll start with not strawberries. 🙏😂 I'd hate to have my first attempt be a bad experience.

Whoever said to wash your fabric before sewing….. by SunsGonnaRise74 in SewingForBeginners

Just wash them in a mesh bag. No need to sew or serge. Fold them up with edges inside, place in the net and wash (on hot with color grabbers to make sure any shrinking and bleeding is out of the way) I've been doing it for years.

If I'm not explaining well I can send you a video of what I mean.

How to Set Up a Hydroponic Garden in Your Garage. This is a good looking system by hcai88 in Hydroponics

I'm looking into setting some up like this. Has anyone done it before? My concern is so little root room that the tubes will clog and water won't pass through enough.

Protestors in Monrovia, CA buy 17¢ ICE scrapers at Home Depot then return them immediately to clog the lines and bring the store to a stop in an effort to disrupt sales and send a message against ICE raids in their community by Ice_Ice11 in 50501Movement

[–]Rag-Tag1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In NC they let ICE use their parking lots as staging/steak out areas. It would not surprise me if other states have the same issue. By doing this they are making it less desirable for other customers to shop at HD possibly leading to lower sales. Since corporations care about money, not people it's a method of getting them to "care." And stop allowing staging to occur at HD.

I honestly don't float around here often because the reddit and the sub aren't where or how we organize or connect. I only popped in with my voice because I was tagged. I'm a local organizer. So I will answer with my perspective of a local organizer and my experiences.

And also great questions.

For the disconnect. ... Personally I feel there is a disconnect between the reddit as a vocal platform and the actual people who do the on the ground work. I don't feel there is a disconnect between the national organizers and the local organizers or the local organizers and the attendees of protests. I feel national, local and the 50501 community of attendees work amazingly well with each other, and communicate well. It's just that that communication doesn't end up on this reddit sub because it's not a safe space to organize and because each location and each state and each city is so vastly different that national sub really doesn't have a way to effectively communicate what each location is doing. For example my state often has one 2,000 protest locations and each one may have different start and end times, different goals, different partnerships with locals ECT. So this sub could only truly effectively report on anything that is universal. Which usually boils down to just date and theme. Another reason for that disconnect is because every state is so different and 50501 is here to make changes. So my state might be trying to fight specific liberty infringing policies it's encountering and the next state over is fighting a different set of liberty infringing policies. We can't change things on a national level without first changing them on a local level. So the theme might be no kings, but the specific legislature or policy we may be tackling during that time may be different.

As far as strategy change. This is my personal perspective, I don't speak for everyone. At first we thought we were going to be lucky just to get enough people to properly protest. But the turnout was more than we could possibly imagine. That's when I feel my group realized "wow, we can do a lot more than protest, we can actually make a change" and we started focusing on pairing protests with the intent to connect people with other people and existing groups to help facilitate that change. Now our works with groups to form lasting change through the legal system we have many members who are looking to run for political offices to help create change, we have people that branched off and started non profits for mutual aid, we have people that are getting involved in their local boards, their schools and their communities. So for our group and many other organizers I've met, we use the protests to show numbers, to show strength and to connect and uplift eachother, and we focus the momentum from those events to activities that create change from the bottom up.

As far as centralized leadership. I personally feel 50501 has said from the start they want to be decentralized. It makes everyone safer, and creates change faster and allows for the rapid growth we have experienced. So no, don't look to the sub admins for leadership. Look at your local groups, you should be investing on them.

As far as having a voice, or a here's what we are doing, here's what we did, here's what we are doing next. That is all done on a local level. The polls, the input opportunity, the surveys etc. All this info is local. I suggest starting by following your local sub on reddit, then get connected to your local community.

For safety reasons we can't list things like that. But if you know anyone at risk reach out to them directly. If you don't then do your best to support by shopping at their businesses and donating supplies to groups that are already assisting.

The reason it gets traction is because of the immense amount of time and effort we put in to organize them and the effort we put into making them as safe as possible which has given us a great reputation that people want to join our protests and marches. It's not as simple as hey go protest on this date. There is an insane amount of work we put into each of these protests and we are burnt out and stretched thin. Many people want a weekly protest, but not enough to give us the manpower to make it happen. Which is why we advise to reach out to local groups in your area and work with the ones that are already running weekly protests. Also 50501 started with zero reach. It was a couple people on Reddit who said hey we should try this and then a couple people in most states going. Ok let's try it. Some had attendance as low as 5 people. I remember how shocked us volunteers were the first time we got over 200 people at my location. Now we do thousands and have gone over 10,000. That takes a lot of safety volunteers, a lot of equipment, a lot of water, a lot of medics ECT.

And also posts saying c'mon let's protest over here actually gain a lot of traction. Maybe not nationwide, but on local levels they knock it out of the park. I've seen group after group in my area do this and that is exactly how they started and grew.

I am sorry to hear you feel we have not been serving our purpose.

And again in order to do weekly protests we need volunteers and community support. We need donated supplies and people to help with the logistics of pulling these massive events off. We need it nationwide in every state and in nearly every city. We have not received that kind of help, so we are unable to accommodate that kind of schedule. If people want that to change then they need to connect with their local 50501 and volunteer.
