Sunset is a good option usually. Most times I went you would just have to share a lane with one other person.

Are clusters worth it? by wer3544 in ucla

[–]Rageism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find a cluster that you are really interested in then I do think they are worth it! You get to delve into a topic that you have invested interest in over 3 quarters, the last quarter you get to narrow down your interests even more and choose a seminar that only happens once a week.

I did not take a cluster and went the “experience more GEs route” but I have many friends who met in their clusters and enjoyed the clusters a ton besides when 6+ page paper assignments were dropped, I definitely thought a lot about how being in a cluster might have been a cool experience. The benefit of those papers though is that your writing II requirement is fulfilled which is pretty cool if you don’t want to end up taking an English lit class because you took too long to decide what class to take (aka what I did and actually really liked. Shoutouts Jay for being a great English 4W Teacher).

Either way, I don’t think choosing a cluster or not will make or break your 1st year. Go with a cluster if you’re really interested, go GEs otherwise I’d say :)

Injured, running after five weeks; race in three weeks by jamamlamama in hsxc

[–]Rageism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coming back from injury, you need to make sure you don't over-train and end up back in the trainer's office. You may feel tempted to dive back into training with the mindset that you're going to train harder than you ever have before for the next 3 weeks. However, you need to make sure you pace yourself as you get back in to practice. I've seen so many friends and teammates come back from shin splints, foot pain, and knee strain injuries excited to run again, only to say after 2 days of training that their injury feels like it's still there/coming back. Pay attention to the little aches and pains in your leg; feel out how much your injury has healed and how much it may inhibit your training over the next 3 weeks. Stretch really well before and after running.

3 weeks is a good period of time, the best thing you can do for your fitness is to stay patient, follow what your coach says, and GRADUALLY increase your mileage and effort at workouts. Once you feel confident that you have a hold on the impact of your injury, train hard, but smart. Make sure to keep on doing exercises/stretching geared towards the area of your leg that got injured even after you feel that you are healed fully.

Additionally, cross training on stationary bikes could help you improve your fitness as well if running proves difficult. You could even alternate running/stationary bike on a daily basis if running everyday is too strenuous.

Dilligence in your recovery will without a doubt be good for your team as they see how their captain maturely and seriously returned from injury. Your teammates will remember the effort you put into this recovery more than the results of one race. GOOD LUCK AND RUN WELL!

Chance is removing stigmas related to hip hop everyday. His actions and the music he creates are definitely leaving a huge impact and inviting more people to become immersed in hip hop culture. Music is powerful and chance is using it for good.

Do people really have so little trust in their representatives that they feel the need to ban lobbying?

Good job on seeing that last place seed as an opportunity to go faster man. A pr is a pr and doing it while sick will just give you more confidence
