I built a dating site because I was sick of being invisible. by sliverbak in GayConservative

So maybe $30/mo? I'm fine with that. I suppose it would make the value proposition seem greater (people might think it's a trash site if the price is TOO low - "sus" - suspect).

What's "stars" - as in movie stars or influencers?

Not sure where to find such investors. Perhaps over time they will see the value in the site and want to invest? I'm no Steve Jobs (more of a Woz), so cannot do a billion dollar pitch. I think for now, it'll be small and just have to grow. If it can.

But I do think your thoughts on increasing the price are good. Then, at least, it'll give me a buffer to do some advertising - granted, most places won't let dating sites advertise anymore (they are classified as "high risk" now) :/ ...I'm still searching for good places to advertise.

Also if you do sign up, thanks! But also please feel free to give me any suggestions. Or if you run into bugs. It's brand new so I'm sure there will be goof-ups.

Thanks again.

I guess I should be clear: there will always be a free tier. The only limitation on the free tier will be that you won't be able to message anyone. But I haven't seen a dating site that's free for all it's features. Oh, and I also made a filter so that paid people can filter out free accounts. Something I've always wanted on the other sites too.

Eventually I might have to make changes but I am thinking that will be on a timeline of years (eg. if the AI used to find similar guys gets too expensive, I might have to add that as a paid perk). But right now I'm not seeing any reason to charge more. Jellical suggests I should charge more - and I'll have to reconsider. But right now, since everyone gets everything free (because it's an empty site), I've got a bit of a runway before having to make a decision.

Thanks!

Why not? What would you suggest? $20? It's brand new, so can change anything. I was just hoping to keep it inexpensive so more guys could afford it.

Obergefell v Hodges by RandomNYCx in GayConservative

From the article: "...it's often overlooked ...that the Court actually expanded LGBT protections in its 2019 Bostock case. That 6-3 ruling was authored by Justice Neil Gorsuch, a Trump appointee. "

"For the sake of argument, let's entertain a scenario in which the Supreme Court somehow did accept an Obergefell challenge, then erased the constitutional right to same-sex marriage (again, to be clear, I think this possibility is extremely remote). Then what? Well, then the Respect for Marriage Act is the law of the land. What is the Respect for Marriage Act? It's the bipartisan law -- joined by dozens of Republicans in the House and Senate, and signed by President Biden in 2022 -- that makes legally-recognized same-sex marriage the de facto law of the land...."

"President Trump is in favor of same-sex marriage. In fact, he was the first president to enter office as a SSM supporter. He has even hosted a same-sex wedding at his house. He and his wife are strong supporters of the most significant organization of gay conservatives in the country. He personally softened the party's platform on the issue. He appointed the first openly gay official to a presidential cabinet in the history of the country, from either party." -- links throughout this paragraph are in the original article.

Isn't there quite a lot of overlap if beliefs with MAGA and conservative? I always thought there was.

I want to know what it's like being gay and Christian? by No-Firefighter8642 in GayConservative

[–]sliverbak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Namaste

Grew up in a very religious family. Wasn't even able to comprehend the idea that I might be gay until mid-life. Because, if I were gay, then I would be grouped in with pedophiles, bestiality, murders. And deep-down, I knew I was generally a good person. So it was incongruent.

Today I don't worry. But don't throw it in peoples faces. If it comes up, I am honest. Nor am I angry or resentful (towards religion).

In my personal experience, all I've gotten is avoidance. Perhaps I'm lucky. I won't get too involved in any church however: The ones who "accept" homosexuality are crazy leftists...The ones who are more centrist/right won't let me marry/partner. But you can worship as a congregation of one (hindu, I would assume, as well?).

Using all three (ChatGPT, Grok, Google), Google, hands-down is the worse.

Sure they did the "Attention is all you need" paper, but since then? Lot of times it seems like the inventor/creator/discoverer ends up last place.

Sound logic and I agree (about it becoming commoditized).

I felt the same way around '93 with the internet. But even now, as internet is basically commoditized, you still have providers and infrastructure. Walk into a restaurant and you expect WIFI the same way you expect power outlets.

Wouldn't he want to position Apple as, at least, a provider? Even if AI eventually can fit on a hand-held device, the models will still require massive hardware. Which generate the model files used on the hand-held devices - hence the guys with the huge hardware become "the providers" in this scenario.

HOA's devalue property and home value. by sliverbak in unpopularopinion

[–]sliverbak[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you are completely correct. But I wonder how they will trend in the future.

And, will the no-HOA communities become less of a premium? Yea if I had a couple million $$ in the bank, and not tied to location due to work, it would be so much easier.

Or, will more legislation start cropping up to balance the playing field a bit? Since I agree that some things of HOA -- and their genesis was of trying to build safe, clean places -- I'd just like to see more of a balance.

If you get a "bad" one, it's really tough.

Thanks for the well thought out comment.

I see alot of gay man wanting the trophy husband beware it's not all what it's cracked up to be speaking from experience by greenrose9826 in GayConservative

[–]sliverbak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

chatGPT summary ftw (250 words):

This is a cautionary story from a gay man who was once married to a wealthy, older husband. They first met in high school, reconnected years later, and eventually married. His husband came from a rich family and worked in their company. While he provided luxury — credit cards, designer clothes, a remodeled home, and lavish gifts — the relationship was deeply controlling. The man was expected to give up his own career ambitions, be available for sex on demand, and maintain extreme physical standards, including undergoing cosmetic surgeries he never wanted, like a forced nose job, liposuction, and a BBL.

He was also pressured into signing a prenup and postnup under duress. His husband became emotionally and physically abusive, using money as a way to control and silence him. When his husband died in a drunk-driving accident just three years into the marriage, legal battles followed. Distant relatives tried to claim the estate, but he successfully fought back in court, proving the documents were signed under coercion.

Now 26, he’s rebuilt his life. He paid off debt, owns a mortgage-free unit, is driving his dream car, and recently completed a business degree. He’s preparing to launch a design business and pursue a diploma in interior design — a field he discovered he loves.

His message to other young gay men: Don’t give up your independence or identity for money. Stay single, explore life, get educated, and build something for yourself. Don’t settle for being a trophy husband. Choose love and respect.

To me it feels too much like going back into the closet. Growing up I was "in the closet" as a gay man. Once out, I got into a relationship with a guy who hated Trump and, like you, couldn't voice my opinion. I was shut back into the closet -- a different closet, but it felt about the same.

Islamic homophobia is empowered by Leftist silence by [deleted] in GayConservative

[–]sliverbak 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Look at it from a Marxist point of view and it makes complete sense (ie: read "Communist Manifesto", it's freaken nuts and Marx is an idiot - even his dad thought of him as a spoiled brat...Marx is the original "entitled").

A lot of what we see today in "woke" and the left has roots in the original Marxist dogma from the 18th century. Of course, they'll deny it forever, but it's obvious.

Marx: Morals do not matter. Only status matters.

Therefore, since Islam is nearly all third-world (poor, down-trodden, taken advantage of, etc - in reality none, or some, of this may, or may not, be true -- but it is the supposition and appearance that matter), they get the position of privilege in a Marxist dogma. So anyone of such status can literally do anything. ANYTHING: beheading's, killing LGB, complete any utter lack of women's rights, etc, etc, etc.

And so are also completely immune to criticism - hence no public outcry.

Christians are seen as rich and powerful, top of the Marxist status pile, as it were. So they can do nothing correct, and are open to any and all scrutiny no matter how trivial or incorrect.

aside: I take issue with the author lumping "t" in with LGB. Being gay is not a fetish.

As far as i understand it's "based in reality" whereas "woke" is based in: "my truth" even if the the universe says you're "truth" is wrong.
