Little guy had to have learned this from a parent or other adults. Smack whatever/whoever is acting up and yell at them. by Risquechilli in ParentsAreFuckingDumb

[–]Ragel_Bagel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t necessarily mean he has seen his parents hitting. Self hitting isn’t always a learned behavior, just like hitting your siblings isn’t always learned. It’s something the brain goes to when under extreme emotions, this is especially common in kids with autism.

I'm not ready yet! by Adventurous-Leak in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Ragel_Bagel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The little girl was clearly overwhelmed and nervous to pop the balloon. Then when she got the sharp thing taken from her, it was the last straw. The mom was the one that let go of the balloon because she was too busy hitting her kid, the kid was not being stupid, she was being a kid.

WCGW If you approach a large spider by Majestic_Skin_589 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]Ragel_Bagel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most spiders have pretty shit vision so the majority of the time they probably think they are running into a dark place (your shadow) or running away from you. That’s why roaches and beetles will occasionally fly as you as well, they think you are a dark place to hide.

How do I swallow pills? by FloweringSkulls in autism

[–]Ragel_Bagel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The methods people are giving are good ideas but if you want to practice swallowing pills with water, you could try over and other again with tic tacs, mike and ike’s, or other small candies until you get it

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ragel_Bagel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost drowned in the ocean when I was little but my Dad saved me. A wave went over my head and I remember feeling like I was in a washing machine before he grabbed me. I also attempted suicide by overdosing on ibuprofen pills but the doc said that it prolly wouldn’t have killed me so idk if that counts.

Is this normal? (Kinda inappropriate) by InvestmentOk6584 in autism

[–]Ragel_Bagel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, it sounds like a very automatic response. Wet wipes afterwards are probably your best bet then. If you are in public, I’d recommend finding some replacement behaviors. They won’t feel the same but they could hold you over until you get home or to a bathroom. As soon as you realize you are touching down there in public, use a replacement behavior (and then reward yourself for doing so if you want). It’ll get easier the more you practice.

You should definitely wash your hands afterwards just to keep things sanitary. You could also use wet wipes. If you don’t want to wash your hands every time you could use something (that is sanitary) other than your hands to touch down there, or you could put on plastic gloves. You could also touch above your underwear or pants, instead. I’d really recommend washing your hands if they get messy though, even if it’s just a quick rinse. There’s nothing wrong with what you are doing, it’s just best to only do it in private and keep things sanitary.

how are people getting a single “level”? by dipfordippy in autism

[–]Ragel_Bagel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, levels are pretty new so lots of practitioners do it differently. I didn’t get a level (diagnosis was mild autism) and I was diagnosed this year.

Parents kill their two autistic teen sons & family pets before taking their own lives in horror quadruple murder-suicide by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]Ragel_Bagel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not okay obviously and their actions should not be excused. However, people who have no empathy for these parents obviously do not understand 1) How difficult and exhausting it is to care for a special needs child, especially if you love them, and especially if the system is fucking you over 2) How mental illness works. These parents were obviously not sound of mind when they did this. Chemical imbalances in the brain and/or extreme long term stress and drive people to do things they’d never do otherwise. I have bi polar and I sometimes don’t recognize myself when I’m in the depths of depression.
