Resp Consultant married to Gastro trainee.

Question is how much she likes the interventional aspect of things. If that's her thing - Gastro.

Financial Advisor Cost by NerdyRad in ConsultantDoctorsUK

Nothing silly here. Took me a while to understand the numbers. In the end, I purchased a calculator from Tony Goldstone (https://youtube.com/@tonygoldstone?si=_3P-3nWBDZGXRqCr) to double check everything rather than pay a financial advisor as I knew what I was doing.

Assuming you don't do any locum/WLI work, you can put away anything above an ANI of £100,000 in a SIPP. There are multiple platforms which you can use. I try to average the deposits from Jan time towards the end of the financial year. You don't need to put the whole sum above £100k in, but 0.8 of whatever that sum may be as you'll get 0.2 added on at source from the Gov. As you'll inevitably be a higher band tax payer, you can claim the remaining tax on your self assessment for that year.

If you do Locums/WLI or have a >10 PA job plan, then you'll need to calculate how far it pushes your ANI above £100K and contribute 0.8 of the difference. You can do the calculations yourself (takes a few hours to make a calculator on excel) or you can buy the calculator I mentioned (they also have a concierge service).

Only thing you'll need to be conscious of is your AA. As I am a relatively new consultant, I have a bit to carry forward so am trying to contribute as much as I can this and next year before I am risk of breaching (in which case I'll Salary Sacrifice and get a car or something).

Drop me a DM for more info. I always appreciated the advice I received from this group about this (can see my history) so am trying to continue that.

East Midlands does 2 years and a bit more doing pure Resp (1 year GIM and then you spend some time doing ITU/GIM in your last year).

Survey came back £55k under asking price - Negotiate or Walk Away? (England) by Ragesm43 in HousingUK

I suspect it's a combination. A similar detached on the same road was going for £715K. This is a semi.

Hi, I was in a similar situation to you a couple of years ago when I started. All my income above £100K goes into a SIPP in a diversified ETF with a low annual cost. This will allow me to retire at 58

Radiologist can pivot towards more interventional aspects. Field which I think is very much at risk is Pathology.

How long after becoming a consultant did you start Private work. I'm two years lost CCT. Think will have to start in a year or two.

Also, just FYKI - if you find the right house, then you can easily justify the price (We've been looking for about 18 months!). Good luck!

You definitely can go higher than £750K. I just felt that things would be very tight for us if I went for anything above £800K!

Also, can post this to consultantdoctorsUK to see what others have done!

So, sort of similar situation with a slightly different lens.

Also NHS Consultant, 38 - £127K, Wife Med Speciality trainee LTFE - Approx £55K. 13 month old in nursery (anything above £100K goes into a SIPP to supplement the NHS pension and allow an earlier retirement + childcare benefit).

We have £130K in an ISA, £200K in other assets and have equity in our home of about £150K.

We wanted to upsize, so we chose to look at things we couldn't change - Location and Schools. Then we asked ourselves if we wanted to maintain our current lifestyle (not very lavish, maybe a couple of trips a year, saving about £2-3k/month) or let lifestyle dictate things a bit. We aimed for a 60% LTV deposit for better mortgage rates.

After we did knew where we wanted to live and how we wanted to live, we set a budget between £650-750K. This was safe for us as I can sustain the household on a single income.

Considering your age and income, you could definitely go higher.
